I would go, but I live in the Seattle area, and the only event in Seattle is for deaf high school students.
Is it possible to me to coordinate an event next year for Scratch Day 2013 for Scratchers in the Seattle/Portland area? Can someone please answer my question?
Of course you can coordinate an event for next year's Scratch Day! That's how Scratch Day events spread, when enthusiasts host them!

Cool! Should I create a petition asking for support? Example: if x amount of Scratchers supported me, would I start coordinating the event? Which category would I put the petition in?

Ask parents and teachers for help with coordination of events.

I'm homeschooled (for now), and my parents are all for the idea, so back to the petition question..

@cheddargirl:
I am trying to set up a Scratch day in my area, since in the US there are none in my area. I read the manual, and I will set up an account, but I was wondering if you could give any other pointers.

GRAAAH
There's FINALLY one in BC, Canada.
But it's a day of driving away (16-24 hours).
And it's NOT in Vancouver. It's REALLY far away.
AND it's for teachers. TEACHERS. Why would TEACHERS need to use Scratch?
MAY PIANOS RAIN ON YOU, PRINCE RUPERT MIDDLE!

I can't give any pointers since I've never been at a Scratch Day event myself! ^^; Maybe you can ask other people who have been to a Scratch Day event and ask them what it was like to get a few ideas?

I'm probably not going this year, but I really want to
I might've gone to the Bell one (California) but you have to bring your own laptop and I don't have one
Why do you have to bring a laptop? You could just collaborate using someone else's laptop.

You could, but it may not help much with the actual coordination of events.

You could put a post about your proposed event in Questions About Scratch and see if there are others in your area that would be interested. You need to have your parents on board with every step of the process though, since real-world meet ups are obviously a safety concern. Start off by inviting people from your general area, to see if there is enough interest. If you decide to go for it, then register it on the Scratch Day Site. It can be as big or little as you want to make it
