.raw is already a format.

you deserve an explanation :-| , git lets u do everything soo much faster and in a much organized way ?!?!?!??! and most of the open source powerhouses are using git..

Example node.js , expressjs , mediawiki ......

Okay, so it's easier but does it provide a web host? (this is actually a question, I don't know)
Also if I'm not mistaken unless you paid money people can delete your project.
Okay, so sourceforge has ads but it also has things that github could only dream of having. In sourceforge you can have your own database, have web apps like mediawiki, and tonnes of other stuff. From what I've seen of git hub you can't do that.
edit: aside from the fact that SVN pwns GIT...
Btw awesome software is hosted on SF too for example:
XAMP
FPC
Lazarus
VLC
Tux Guitar
Scribus
Bizarre
And much more, in fact most of the open source projects are on SF  wink
