CRUSH: A new file format

I am working on making a file encrypter that can convert files to and from .crush format. I will release a testing version in the next few days, maybe even tonight. By the way, if you test it, don't use it on important files. It might be unstable, and the format may change over development.

Re: CRUSH: A new file format

What kind of file is it for, and what are your writing the encryption in?

I think it can be used for any file, as it changes the contents, and I'm writing it in Java.

Is it compression, or what?

not compression, just encrypts it. Not top level security, just if you want to hide files.

You should put a warning that says something like "Please note that this is not top level encryption and may draw attention to your encrypted files. Please don't use this for extremely important information". 'Cause if you don't have something like that you're putting yourself at risk of being sued  tongue

Thank you, I'm pretty sure it's no fun to be sued...

Sounds cool.
What encryption method are you using?

This is a temporary signature. It will exist until I think of something witty.

uh...
replace a with !

very simple really, but it will eventually support characters often used in major file formats

Re: CRUSH: A new file format

Well then, now do you want to change the title to 'TOMB: A new file format'?  But anyway, yeah, it sounds like a cool project!  Quite good for basic encryption stuff, such as hiding stats in a game, perhaps (accompanied by other validation techniques, of course).

I was thinking about the name tomb, so I accidentally typed it in the OP. I fixed it now.
