You talking about Minecraft Indev?
I don't have a link because you can't get it online legally.

Yes, but they want the source code only around the time when they had the indev houses, which was indev.

That's what I thought, building as in placing blocks.

Look, just doesn't have to be Minecraft, building as in placing/destroying blocks, just has to be a basic starter I could use to make my own game like it. Mobs would be nice too.

I think there's a program called goodOldDays that will patch a .jar to an older version, if you have the latest one.

well, you will need to know a language to mod the source. you may want to try the source of Infiniminer, the game that inspired minecraft.

You could always use Spout for a good block-based engine...but unfortunately, it won't be in releasable condition for a while.
Alternatively, you could try messing with Minecraft 4k

Well, you could use JAD to decompile it. just like they do in Minecraft Coder Pack.

Try these:
decompiler
simple minecraft
just drag and drop M.jar onto jd-gui and voila! you have notch's messy and astounding source.

If 2D is okay, you might try Minicaft. One of the LD rules is that you are supposed to give the source.
