I think that for security and safety reasons, the sign ups should require you to confirm your email, wether you are an adult, or a little kid. This would help confirm who you say you are, if parents don't let their child have an email, this would be beneficial to them, so that they can more easily reset the password, and confirm their child is how old they say they are, making it easier for moderator elections. However, a couple problems could arise, take for instance, that you lie when signing up, and have your own email. How do you know then? Well, that's when contact us comes into play. This could potentially help limit spam to people's email accounts, requiring you to put in your own, for confirmation. While the freedom of signing up is nice, this would sure help prevent identity fraud, and hacking, and excessive trolling.
It's been brought to my attention that it would reduce new scratcher income. There is a simple solution: perhaps you couldn't use the forums until confirmation. Or perhaps disable commenting until confirmation. Give some feedback below.

I don't think it's a good idea, and I don't understand how it would stop trolling and identity fraud

Because of spambots not trolls... What if the kids can't read captchas? Children as young as 5 join Scratch

With the help of their parents, this can be accomplished. Look, I'm entitled to my opinion just as much as you are to yours. If you don't like the suggestion, I get it, I'm not going to put myself through the trouble of arguing my point. I don't like to argue, it makes my fingers hurt, if I'm typing.

If you can't argue your point, then don't. I don't want this suggestion to go through though so I will post reasons why it shouldn't pass.

why not? you're already registered so how will it effect you? I just don't want to turn this into a problem, so I'm going to ask again. Please stop.

This is a thread where a suggestion has been made and people can either post in support or against the idea (Including reasons for their choice if they wish). Andres-Vander has decided not to support the idea and has explained why, however debating on this thread probably isn't going to work so lets all leave it at this, eh?
I'm afraid I'm personally against this suggestion because it would make registration harder for real people, reducing our new Scratcher income. Age is confirmed with parents during elections and the Scratch Team and community moderators are currently not having too much problem removing spam as it appears.
I can totally see where you're coming from though, maybe it just needs refining a little

thank you. I added on to the top more refinement. I just thought that toying around with the email, could have you with a stolen account if you put in someone else's email. confirmation of this could help. I also did not want to start like a flame war or something.

Sparks, i've always seen it that discussing a suggestion, bringing out its pros and cons, can help users and administrators decide their opinions about it.
