If it were me I would wait for the next gen consoles(Xbox720, PS4). When they are released fleets of new games will start to come out and you wont be able to play any of them. No new games will come out for the old consoles, you will get bored and probably end up buying one of the new consoles anyway.
But that would go for anything. I was asking for if I should wait for E3 because maybe Sony will be saying when they release PS4 and if it's Winter 2013 I'm definitely getting PS3 or Xbox.
If you have your heart set on buying one of the two, In my unbiased opinion(I dont own either console, Im a PC gamer) I would recommend the PS3, PS3 has more hardware horsepower than to the Xbox, larger catalog of non M rated games which is what you said you wanted, you don't have to pay for PSN, and you also get a BlueRay player but im not sure if that's a deal breaker or not for you, I assume you wouldn't be using it to watch movies. It better suits the casual gamer I think.

Xbox
It has better graphics.
Or wait...
I'm not one who cares for small differences between graphics. I notice the difference between say, roblox vs. portal. But I don't notice the graphic difference between portal and modern warfare 2 (I've seen gameplay).
@Targethero, I disagree with your casual gamer comment, but see your point on the rest of your post.

any specific reason?
Better online functionality and less likely to break down. More exclusive games, too.
And if you like, you can install Linux on it.

It seems like I'm getting the PS3, but should I wait for E3. If not, I have $187.25 at gamestop and they sell it for $209.99. I'm going to sell my PSP, 4 PSP games, 9 nintendo DS games, and (hopefully) 6 gameboy advance games. How many games do you think I would be able to get?

Why? Im not saying that if you are a hardcore gamer you shouldn't buy it, Im saying that if you are a casual gamer it would be better for you, because you don't have to pay for online multiplayer so you wont be wasting money on a service you will only use every now and then, and it has more games directed at casual players.

Oh, with your comment I thought you were saying there is a distinct feature between the two for hardcore and casual.

You think that they're going to release a time PS4 is going to come out that is before Christmas 2013?

I much rather prefer PC/Mac gaming, but from those two, I'd go for the PS3.

My mac sucks. My monitor is awesome but my mac mini's graphic processor is "hated" by practically every gaming company that makes games for mac.

PS3, for sure. You won't be able to play Halo, and I think Call of Duty is exclusive to the 360, but games like infamous, and infamous 2 are good games, and are exclusive to PS3. I can't get my PS3 to play PS2 games for some reason, and my Wii crashed, but I think you need to wait a little longer. Thought about the new Wii console? I've heard that the next Smash Bros. game will not be available for the current Wii

I wouldn't be allowed to play halo and the PS3 I have my eyes on is backwards compatible and cheaper than the rest (because it's only 20 gb and refurbished).

If the 360 was a F22 fighter jet, the PS3 would be a tricycle with 1 broken wheel.
It's not even fair.

i would say ps3
Very few games use the full hardware of the ps3 though
If its a multi platform game its coded in this order x-box then ps3
thus it doesn't use the full potential of the ps3
If the programmers were bothered to do so they could max out the ps3 version of the game while xbox is left behind.

(This is MY opinion) If i had the money you have saved up i would spend it on the new WiiU or a nintendo console because i think it has a nice variety of games violent and non violent. But thats what i would do i'm not sure about you. Plus if you are asking Xbox of PS3 i would go for PS3.
