PORTAL 3-d Project

http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg443/scaled.php?server=443&filename=post2284271192104799ux4.jpg&res=landing

I am a huge portal fan. It is one of my favorite games ever. Whenever I see a portal engine, I always go and check it out. And I am always disappointed that it completely takes away the 3-dness. I would like for that to change. So, I (and the people who join) are going to make a portal room in 3-d.

How it will work:
There are going to be 4 main steps in this.

Step 1: Design the room.
We will make it array based. DO NOT worry about the hard math of being array based. It's not that hard, especially if you already have done a normal raycaster which is why we are going to have that as our rough draft.

Step 2: Make the floor.
How we're going to make the floor is pretty easy. I didn't even think of making a floor until I saw this project. There's not going to be fancy textures, pre rendered graphics, none of that.

Step 3: Portals
In the first normal raycaster this step would be relatively easy. But, when we move into the array based raycaster it would be a lot harder which is why I put this as a step.

Step 4: Physics
There will be gravity and force transfer (if that's what that's called) through portals. It will also be hard because we'll be having to find the heights of the floor which is going to be much harder than the walls.

It's not going to be the best looking portal engine, but it's going to be the first 3-d one on scratch.

In the Raycaster group, it's basically all equal work. In the Floor caster group too. Just the head will be managing how they're going to make it.

With the Portals, the Head will be thinking up how to do it (probably using variables when we move to array based raycaster) and programming, and the assistants are just going to be programming.

In Physics, the head will be thinking of what physics should be made and be working on the more advanced stuff, the major assistants will also be working on the more advanced stuff while the assistants will be working on the less advanced stuff like velocity on land and gravity with jumping.

Why I would be good in that position:

REMEMBER: you MUST know at least SOME math to be able to at least UNDERSTAND what will be going on.

Re: PORTAL 3-d Project

Note: This will not be as hard as everyone is expecting. It might be a little slow, with bad graphics, but it will still be a 3-d portal engine that is going to be easier than expected to make. And, if it doesn't work, what's wrong with some experience of making 3-d games?

Since I can see no one wants to join I'll ask for this to be closed.
