Closed Topics be Removed from the Forums

^^ I don't see the point on keeping a topic that we can't respond to. And if it's closed, that means it's not useful, so delete the closed topics to save some space and clean up the useless stuff!

Re: Closed Topics be Removed from the Forums

But sometimes they get reopened. And do you want all those topics about scratch history to be erased (such as the first spam attack?)

Re: Closed Topics be Removed from the Forums

technically speaking, they don't get deleted, they get moved to the so-called 'dustbin'

Re: Closed Topics be Removed from the Forums

People can learn from them though - if they see a thread is closed because of flaming, they (hopefully) won't flame. The thread owner may also be wondering where it went.

Closed topics can still be useful.

Re: Closed Topics be Removed from the Forums

Sometimes topics are closed because the issue is not relevant anymore. The owner may be wondering what happened to it, so it doesn't get deleted. Also, if it was a question, another user could see it and learn from it.
Sometimes topics are closed because they're a resource that shouldn't be posted in, such as the ITopic index. You wouldn't want that disappearing, would you?  wink
Sometimes topics are closed because it's a duplicate. This way, the owner, and others, can learn not to post a duplicate, and can also get the link to the older thread.
Topics are also closed for other reasons, but people may still want to view them. Also, closed topics represent Scratch history.
I think they're here to stay.  smile

Re: Closed Topics be Removed from the Forums

Actually, if the owner wants it removed, you can click on report, and ask for deletion.  Or, before it is closed, they delete the first post, thus removing the whole thread.

Re: Closed Topics be Removed from the Forums

There is a reason for everything.  And closing a topic is a forum convention.  There's no reason why it can't stay.

Re: Closed Topics be Removed from the Forums

I can see your point of view. However, it is nice to go back to the past and see what people where thinking then and apply it to ideas we have could have in the future. So maybe there could be a middle-ground resolution, such as if a topic has been out there for years and is closed, then it should be moved into the 'dustbin' as XenoK pointed out.
