I downloaded the new version of scratch (1.3.1) and started to make a new game. Suddenly my computer froze and then started beeping. Stopped aftera few minutes and I turned it off. Next time I booted up it wouldn't boot just beeped. I bboted it up in safe mode and it worked. Has done this twice and haven't used scratch since. Is there any way of fixing it.

I suspect you have a more serious problem unrelated to scratch - I have a few years as a hardware technician and find what you describe unliky that scratch is the cause.
Unless you are running 98 or Me which scratch does not support I don't know what will happen if you install it on an unapproved OS - my guess is it won't let you.
My first guess is a failed fan. If you can open the case and look at them and see if air is moving out of you power supply.
My second guess is failed video or bad ram you can test ran by downloading the latest version of ubuntu and booting from that as a CD.

I'm not high techy and all but my brother had a similer problem. try just reinstalling windows or if you're on vista then do recovary (back up files first). Although eventually his computer went. Sorry to say but it might be a virus (NOT FROM SCRATCH THOUGH)

Thanks
I am pretty sure it's none of those problems as the computer was rather new and ran windows XP home eddition. Booted up fine in safe mode (where only core windows programs run). Checked with anti-virus software and was bug free throughout the PC( Bullguard 8.5).
Thanks again but now use phun not scratch anyway as it is more advanced( gravity, air resistance, motors etc) http://www.phunland.com/wiki/Home
