Scratch is freely available because we want everyone to use it. We think it's a great educational tool that people should be able to use without having to pay any money. In order to accomplish this we were sponsored by the National Science Foundation, Intel Foundation and the MIT Media Lab Consortia.
We hope to keep Scratch always free. The only thing we would like to get is people to use, tell others about it and get involved in the Scratch community to help others.
