Replay Value Games: A game company I'm making

Yeah, so if you've seen my projects, you'd mostly know that they're videos. I kind of want to take a new direction into my Scratch career and start a gaming company. The usual genre we'll do for our games will be varied, ranging from platformer to rhythm.

STATUS: This company is currently seeing a planned revival. We'll continue making the planned games we were making before. First, I'll have to update the roster, which I will do in  a bit.

Re: Replay Value Games: A game company I'm making

I do already have a games company, Continuum Games, but I could help you with some games if you want. I would be quite good as a scripter or pixel artist but I prefer scripter so if you could make me a scripter...  smile

Well, right now, I'm waiting for at least two more people to join, so we can start our first game. But I might as well tell you what kind of game I had in mind!

I was thinking of a game involving an 8-bit style character (kind of like Commander Video from the Bit.Trip games) finding himself in a 3D world, and he must get back to his homeland.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and I'm going to report the topic, to see if the name can be changed to "Replay Value Games", since I like that one better.

Well if you're looking for positions to be filled, like I said, I could be a pixel artist (sprite creator) if you need me to.

EDIT: Also, if you'd like, I can make a website for the company.

Sure, I'll add you to the list for that, too. I'm thinking of asking technoguyx to join as a musician, too.

And a website sounds cool! But maybe later, since we haven't really done lots of stuff in this company yet.

Count me in  wink  As both score composer and ideas guy too. I mostly compose rock and metal but I'm slowly composing an epic orchestral track and I know a bit about electronic music composing.

A suggestion, perhaps we could start by expanding my MusicMaker game. A full version with career mode and stuff should be kinda like Punk-o-Matic - you have a band to compose songs with, using riffs that you slowly gain by practicing or taking lessons. Once you have some songs you may play them in gigs or record demos to sell or send to record labels.

The "8-bit character in 3D world" idea sounds kinda cool though, perhaps I could mess a little with FamiTracker to make some 8 bit music. Random idea: Perhaps the character would somehow change between an 8-bit world and a 3D-ish one, with each one having different proprieties (e.g. in 3D mode dodging stuff is much easier).

Cool suggestions! We'll definitely work on MusicMaker first.  big_smile
By the way, do you think I can slightly collaborate with you on the music-writing. I don't have any music-making programs like you do, but I'm really good at writing score on my keyboard. I can use Scratch blocks, and we can either use that for the game or you can copy the notes and make it yourself; depending on how it sounds through Scratch blocks.

Well uh, I was thinking I should just make riffs for guitar, bass and drums. But we can see if keyboards work, maybe as a "background" sound category with various other sounds  smile

Writing music in Scratch blocks is a bit too lengthy though, and in the end it doesn't sound too good. I can just make all riffs in MIDI, or maybe even record myself playing guitar and bass, and make the drums in Addictive Drums.

Also I was writing some ideas/how to play/story in a .txt file, I'll just copy/paste it here:

STORY:

It was a very special day for our friend, Scratch Cat. In fact, it was his birthday. Friends and relatives celebrated altogether.

Scratch was opening his presents, but what he didn't know was that one of them would change his life forever...

As he teared the colored paper, he revealed a huge package that contained... An electric guitar!

Scratch was so happy, and excited that day. He decided to dedicate as much time as he could to the instrument, until he became the best.

And about a week later, he and his friends formed a 3-piece band. Scratch and friends' music career was just starting...

--------------------------------

HOW TO PLAY:

Before starting to play you must pick your main genre. Each band member will start with some riffs of that genre. You may slowly venture into other genres, getting riffs of those genres. The genres are:

-Classic Rock
-Modern Rock
-Punk
-Metal

The game goes in "turns" of some sort, with each turn representing a week of band history. In each turn, each band member may do one of the following actions:

-Practice on their instrument. As each musician progresses he unlocks different lessons to learn different riffs.
-Go shopping. You may go to the record store to buy CD's to get inspiration (new riffs!), or to the music store to buy instrument equipment.

And in addition to that, the band as a whole may do one of the following actions:

-Compose music with the riffs everyone already has.
-Organize gigs to be played in a nearby turn.
-Every once in a while, opportunities such as auditions for concerts or recording studios for rent will pop up, be sure to make good use of them!
-If you have a recording studio, you may record your songs to sell them or send them as demos to a record label.

The goal of the game is to organize a world tour. Definitively not something easy, good luck!

Wow, impressive! By the way, I wasn't offering to add keyboard in the game, I was just stating how I make my music.  smile

Anyway, I think I should add cutscene animating onto the sign-up list. Until somebody does sign up for it, I will do it. I can make the scene of Scratch getting his electric guitar on his birthday for starters.

Re: Replay Value Games: A game company I'm making

Another thing I forgot is that in concerts or when recording, the rhythm game part of the game should be played - basically random notes are spewed up towards each instrument, to the beat of your song and you must click them when they reach the end of their path. Might make a quick test project now  tongue

Re: Replay Value Games: A game company I'm making

I could be an idea or character design person.
Also, for that Bit Trip style game, you could have it where when there is a wall you can't get past, you have to switch to 3D.
For example:

-----|-Switch----------|
-----|-Switch-|--------
O---|-Switch-|---O---
-----|-Switch-|--------

O = Character
-  = Nothing
| = Wall

Re: Replay Value Games: A game company I'm making

Wow, people replying to a nearly year-old collab topic. o_o

I guess I can revive this topic and the planned games, but I'll have to edit the roster. Some of these people probably aren't active anymore. I know that Techno's still active, so maybe he'll join in in the revival of this company.

I'll update the roster in a bit.
