Suppose I create derivate work based on scratch that can do things on server-side as well as client-side and then make multiplayer game for facebook using this, for example. Can I monetize the game (I'm asking because of 'non-commercial' in the license.txt) (of course, I put the credits in)?

Hi Deerel,
Please use the "Contact Us" form below to email the Scratch team, and let us know more about your request. Can you explain "derivative work based on Scratch"--would it be using Scratch software? Anything more you can describe about your plans would be helpful. Thanks for contacting us!

What do you mean by "using Scratch software"? Derivative work, as is written in source code license. I take source code, make my own software out of it, and then use it in above-mentioned manner (to be able to have, say, multipalyer game in facebook pages with ads that create revenue). Can I do it?

If you want to develop a commercial game using Scratch source code, you need to get permission from the MIT Scratch Team. Please send a description of your game, and your plans for it, to the MIT Scratch Team by using the "Contact Us" form (see link at bottom of the page).

No, I don't want to develop commercial game. I want to develop fork of Scratch, which will have additional abilities, and using this it would be available to make, for example, multiplayer game in facebook. I cannot send you any plans for any game, since I have no game plans for now, only plans for makintg derivative work based on Scratch code,
When this devrivate work is done, can games developed using it be placed on facebook page with ads (that is, one, that potentially generates revenue)?
Or, simpler question, because this seems too complicated: can I put Scratch games/animations/etc. on a facebook page (don't ask how - this is not the part of the question, let us assume there is a way to do it) that is monetized (with all credits, etc.)?

Hi,
I write an enthusiast's blog on ionic air purifiers.
Often I want to illustrate how certain technologies work at the sub-atomic level. Since I do not want to infringe anyone's copyright, I'm wondering if its ok to use Scratch to try and do an original work and post it on my blog?
If its ok, what's the best way to learn to use scratch?
Also, can the product be posted on Youtube so it does not slow down my site?
Thanks,
Best Regards,
Min En

You can certainly use Scratch to illustrate your product. What is not permitted, however, are advertisements for commercial products on this web site - so I have removed the link you posted. There are many ways to learn Scratch...one of the most effective is to look around the site and find projects that do things similar to what you are trying to do and then download them and study the scripts. And, of course, the Forums are available with lots of helpful people ready to give you assistance. Enjoy Scratch and good luck.

Umm...Can I have permission to create a forum? Or is this forum for moderators only? Oops. *blushes*

No, you can't sell it. You can distribute it for free, though, as long as there is no copyright.
