BYOB: Can you make blocks that aren't based on other blocks?

So, in BYOB, can you create blocks without basing them on other blocks.  Like say I wanted to make a stretch effect block.  The block editor doesn't seem like it will let me do that.  But at the same time, a nightmarishly confusing visual squeak exists within the program, so I was wondering if it was possible to make blocks using that.  This would be useful for that pointillize effect I want to make useable really bad, but with the block editor.  So my question is: can you and if so how?

Re: BYOB: Can you make blocks that aren't based on other blocks?

You'd think it would be possible though because of the fancy squeak thingy.  I still can't find a way to access that stupid effects menu so I can add in those obsolete graphic effects, and was hoping BYOB would.  I don't even understand why they were rendered obsolete in the first place, they work fine in panther.  If Scratch 2.0 doesn't use stretch and the obsolete graphic effects, I'm gonna blow up...  I might be stuck with inactive panther for that stuff then.   sad

panther uses CYOB which lets you make them and is designed for adding new blocks via squeak

You can edit other blocks, but not create your own blocks. If you really want to do that, you can mess with the source code: there's a BYOB Development.sh/.exe which when run opens up a new BYOB where shift-clicking on the edit menu has lots of goodies.  smile

well, thanks for the help.  I might try that.  In the mean time, I'll just add some of the blocks from the library.
