"Questions about scratch" = Team

I have some questions about the scratch team, and I bet alot of other people do too. This is where you can ask the scratch Team questions about what they do and more.
Here are my questions:
>Im going into middle school. Is there anything I can do now to help me possibly get a scholorship to MIT. Its been my dream ever since I joined scratch.
>Do you get paid, or is it just for the honor and fun of being apart of the scratch team?
>Those of you Scratch Team members whos label is "Scratch Team at MIT", does that mean you work for MIT or something?
>The moderators are a big help to you guys, do you have to teach them what to do?

Thank you,
        Unite

I'm pretty sure the Scratch Team isn't part of the administration that reviews applications, and I believe the team consists (mostly) of students (I've always assumed they were volunteers).

My point is, I'm not sure why they'd have better advice to give than your guidance councilor, though I will concede that, in regards to MIT specifically, they may be more knowledgeable.

The Scratch Team is mainly made up of MIT students, so i believe they are volunteers. As for getting on the Scratch Team, you either have to study at MIT like they do, or else be an exceptional scratcher, like cheddargirl was.
And as a new mod, i can definitely testify that the ST teaches us what to do.  wink

Re: "Questions about scratch" = Team

Hi Unite,

The Scratch Team is made up of several different groups of people including MIT Media Lab graduate students, programmers, contractors, moderators, a professor and an administrator (me).

If you want to get a scholarship to MIT study hard, get good grades, find something you're passionate about and pursue it, try to find hobbies (sports, crafts, skills) you enjoy and develop them and don't forget to volunteer your time to causes that are important to you!

Most (but not all) of us are paid, although it's important to know we're paid because our Scratch responsibilities are part of our job.

Moderators undergo some sort of training. Lightnin and Paddle2See know more about this.

Thanks for your questions. Keep Scratching!

Yeah, I think Lightnin is an exception. I believe he's the Scratch "Community Coordinator" so he actually gets payed to coordinate community activities and help out in various ways.

I'd imagine so. She registered in 2009 and one of her two friends is karenb, who's also an Admin.

If not, well, what a first post. 0_0

Some Scratch Team members don't have the Scratch Team title under their name. This is common for ST members whose duties fall outside of the Scratch website.

Re: "Questions about scratch" = Team

I'm the admin for the MIT Scratch Team. And Cheddar Girl is absolutely right about why I don't have the Scratch Team title under my name. Though perhaps I should make them give me a title...perhaps Queen of the Admins! Or Ultimate Admin!
