The following topic might have already been discussed/answered somewhere but I wasn't able to find any info on this so...
I don't know if this has been discussed before, but wouldn't it be wise to get a volunteer with who speaks English decently to review and delete the games that are just too bad. I mean, I know that most of the games(at least from what I've seen) aren't anything good, but there are some games that are just 2 frame movies or games that don't restart properly(or at all) when the green flag is clicked.
My suggestion is to release a set of minimal criteria which the project must contain such as:
- If it's a movie/animation it has to be at least 15 frames long.
- It needs to restart properly without having to refresh the page.
- It mustn't contain any pornographic or advertising(related to outside sites) content.
- The quality must be at least acceptable(e.g. creating a very simple game that takes forever to load because of the extended use of forever loops and so on shouldn't be allowed. Animations and movies that were drawn by what seems to be a 5 year old kid should also be avoided).
I believe that if 2-3 moderators are set up for the projects the number of really low quality projects would be reduced to 0 and people would at least try a little harder to create something, instead of spending 10 minutes creating lame and buggy games.

Someone (can't remember but might of been paddle) who was in the scratch team said that scratch is for everything. 2 frame long stuff can sometimes have good graphics. The only thing is agree with is the
- It mustn't contain any pornographic or advertising(related to outside sites) content.

Well, alright, I agree that sometimes a few frames, if nicely done, can be far better than 15. However, other than the point about pornography and advertising, shouldn't every game restart properly on flag click at least? I mean, it's not that difficult to press F5, but still, it's basic stuff.
However, another reason to get a good moderator would be to add suggestions on what to improve/change in both the gameplay and the "scripting" possibly.

I'm afraid your own game doesn't pass your criteria. Please take it down. kthxby.
What?! Yup.

Your game doesn't properly reset when the green flag is pressed... when your bullet is going up the screen. Do that once or twice and notice that you are no longer able to shoot.
Here's another way your project doesn't reset properly: Press 'X' and when you are saying 'speed', press the green flag. You never stop saying 'speed'.
(In case you didn't notice, this post is a friendly jab. I don't think anyone needs to police the quality of games posted. Otherwise, NO games would ever be posted. The whole point of this web site is TO LEARN! How can the students learn if they are not allowed to post until their game is perfect?! They can't, obviously. So, no censorship is the only way to go in this situation.)

Yes, I agree 100% with boltbait. Too many people are saying that there should be higher standards for scratch projects but really, scratch is a learning tool and should be used as such.
The difference between games websites and the scratch website is that scratch is meant to teach while other sites are made to entertain. This censorship would only be appropriate for websites that are only made to entertain.

The biggest problem is that hundreds (possibly thousands) of projects are uploaded daily. That would mean the mods would have to be on 24/7, and I don't really think anyone is willing to do that, even if they took shifts.
Another thing is that this site isn't to make the best projects you possibly can, it's so that you can share your work with the world without fearing it getting removed because it's not good enough. That's why the "share" part of scratch is so strongly emphasized. You also have to consider the age of some of the users on here, but I don't want to go into that.

well, you can upload anything appropriate onto scratch pretty much. It would suck to have your best drawing, animation, game, etc. removed

And now that I know this because a moderator told me(just an example) I'll do something about it and fix it and then, once it works properly reupload it.
But, after seeing what the others said I guess it would be too difficult to keep up with all the submissions, even if most of them take only several minutes to review. And I guess that it really is meant to be more of a learning experience then an entertaining one.

Yeah, it's sort of like saying "Oh, it looks like you failed kindergarten because you don't know trigonometry"
