One famous story that was written with only six words is the following:
For sale: baby shoes, never used.
It was written by Ernest Hemingway. It's not very detailed, but it's open-ended. Why were the baby shoes never used? Where is it being sold? Only you can answer that.

I've heard of that one before.
....My ideas are too depressing.
"The parents were excited for their first baby, and it ended up being born to early and the baby died. They were selling the shoes to rid themselves of anything to remind them of their child's death."

Good one that I've heard:

In the future USA, there was so much noise that you had to pay to talk. One man, however, was crazy, and couldn't stop talking. The speech police arrested him, only to find out he was the prince of Iran. A war ensued, and the US won.

Here's one I made (starting after the colon):
After his amazing flight, he landed gracefully. There was a bomb in the middle of the room which was the reactor. He had to destroy it. But how would he do it? He killed everything in his path, looking for the control panel. He found it. He activated the panel...

Thanks! Never underestimate the trusty thesaurus.
Yep, I always use the thesaurus when I want a more juicy word choice. Nobody likes a bland fish.
Actually, I sort of do.
Overlong words can ruin the pacing of a story sometimes.
But aside from that it can be noticeable. I've never read Twilight, but a criticism I often hear of it is that it seems to use thesauri too much. Apparently "small town" might end up being "diminutive municipal" which is too complicated and unnecessary.
However if you are about to repeat the word "said' fifty times or something, by all means use one.

Once upon a time... The end.
(6 words)
Why is it ending already? What time was it? Why is there 3 dots after "Once upon a time"?
PWNed.

Wait a second! I've been struck with an inspiration!
True story:
It was the first day of school. I was taking notes on volcanoes. Then the building started shaking! We rushed out of the classroom, down the stairs, and out the building. The inspectors wouldn't be there for a while, so we went home. It was an interesting school day.
