Hello New Scratchers! Thanks for joining Scratch, and I hope that you create some brilliant projects! I thought I might make a updated version about the recent going-ons in the community that may need explaining! Don't worry, some things come and go, others can be easily fixed.
Neigh
Look on the front page and you may see that there are some projects on the front page ranting about Neigh, a pony which bares a resemblance to the Scratch Cat. It was an April Fool's Joke where the Scratch Team mentioned it would be the official mascot for Scratch 2.0, a future update for Scratch. Some users notified it was a joke, but others took it seriously. Just forget about it, and simply tell the Scratch Team if anything gets out of hand.
Team Fortress 2 and other Memes
Another regular on the front page are memes. Memes are catchy internet jokes which users want to spread. This is perfectly normal. I just want to give you a heads-up on any you are uncertain about.
Ponies and Bronies
These two are related, but different. You will have definitely heard of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and of course, naturally, there are fans on the internet. Some like to express their love of ponies as a project - hence them being regular on the front page. However, bronies were originally boys who liked the show, for no unnatural reason. Now, the meaning has been stretched in different ways - so don't bother finding out what the meaning is.
Portal and Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2 in particular, these two games are the representatives of the growing video-game memes. They are usually screen-shots from the games themselves, mostly in another game called Garry's Mod. As well, as that, there are users who base their alternate accounts on video game characters, mostly from Portal. Do not confuse these video games as the sole purpose of Scratch, usually, video game forums should house this stuff.
Creepypasta
Not necessarily a meme, but could lay in the requirements. Creepypasta are short scary stories which are designed to nerve the reader. It is suggested that any users in a nervous disposition should not be advised to read creepypasta. It has grown famous in the main forums, and occasionally reaching out in the main website. The name sounds confusing, so I thought I should explain it's meaning.
Trolls
A commonly used term, trolls are cyberbullies on the internet who aren't generally nice. They usually spam. Spam is unwanted messages or comments which have no purpose. Also, they are mean - like real-life bullies, usually making someone feel sad or angry. The best way to fight back is to alert either the Scratch Team or, if it's serious, a responsible guardian or parent.
If you want to know anything else that is currently happening, fell free to tell me.

Wow! Nice tips, I just joined yesterday and this really helped! Also, I have a question is Scratch 2.0 actually going to come out?
Yes, it's going to come out, silly.
The ST hasn't released a date yet, but I assume it will be sometime this year.
Remember, they're redoing the whole scratch program in a different language.

I see. It seems there has been some talk, yet nothing has really been happening!

Things have been happening.
They just haven't been publicly displaying it.
