I think that you can make projects that are chatrooms. The forums aren't really the right place for a chatroom.

Chat threads are banned on the Scratch forums, as chatting get often get very difficult to moderate.

Why would you want to use Scratch when there's Facebook, Twitter, and all those other rubbish sites? Plus threads need one discussion point which doesn't change.

As far as I know, chat threads are discouraged on the forums as they can be hard to moderate and often lead to flaming...

Okay, Yeah you can chat through IM, Email, etc. BUT it is discouraged to share these on Scratch. Wouldn't it be safer to keep your identity safe from spammers, and just chat on the forums?

Chatting on the forums is just too hard to moderate.
With 2.0 though, chat projects could be created using cloud variables.

Yes, but 2.0 is not out yet. Yes it will be out pretty soon, but what about the others that don't want to wait.
