I am currently transcribing zeldas lullaby for violin because of its beautiful, harmonious, heavenly melody. I am thinking of using finale notepad (free version since i don't have a credit card or a phone yet cuz that depends on my parents) for transcribing it. if you know a better software then please just reply to this post. When i'm done transcribing the song i will post a scribd link to the finished composition. I hope to be done by 3 weeks later (since i have a science test on Tuesday and i want to study for it)

Good luck with it! I love learning to play songs I like on my violin too.

I don't think Finale Notepad is free - there is a Finale Reader that's free, but all it does is read Finale files. Try MuseScore, it's free and has a lot of the same functions as Finale Notepad.

Notepad used to be free... (At least back in '06 or so. Gee, I feel old). Anyway, Sibelius has a free 30-day trial. Sibelius is pretty serious software though. Might be overkill for your purposes.

Ah, the good old days. If I'm not mistaken, Finale stopped being free after the 2008 release.

Not to mention that once the free trial is over, you might end up not being able to access the work put into making the score (unless of course, you can shell out a couple hundred bucks to buy the software after the demo is over. But that's why I hate demo versions of almost any software a lot).
