I'm Writing A Book, And I Need Help!

Hello Fellow Scratchers,  wink
As you know I am Geekish  big_smile  And I am currently writing a novel, called "The Dawnspirits" the plot is a little draft-y- and rough, and I keep over-changing the plot. Only, I need some help actually writing it. How should I begin it? What works better, third or first person? What kind of language? Informal or formal? I guess it depends on the story, I suppose.

Mmm. I agree, each side has it's advantages. I don't really know what I'm comfortable with the most though. I usually write in 1st person, though I'm thinking of changing jus to experiment.

I've always found first person to be easier-to-follow and overall just more enjoyable to read.

Hmm... here is what i got for 3rd person so far, just a draft:

Tabithia stares oddly at the seaweed. The seaweed sways perpetually, brushing against the water, as fish hop up from the sea level, and dive back in. Tabithia has a mind of curiosity, a happiness of the things around her.  She sways her feet in the water, just like the seaweed.

I like third person.

Allows more description and less noise.

Re: I'm Writing A Book, And I Need Help!

Cool! I like doing third person best. I'm writing a book currently, as well.

~Breeze stormed out the door, the sun's cruel rays beating down on her. "It's unfair!" she snarled to the squirrels around her. They took off at her tone of voice, too familiar with her tantrums. "The world centers around me, and they just want to KILL me for it!" she whimpered, a tear sliding off of her soft furry cheek.~

I prefer that kind of third person, like telling a story about what happened.  big_smile  So fun! ♥

I don't know all the fancy names, but I like Percy Jackson. You could do it like that.

Don't write like Rick Riordan.

Second person.  Really, I wrote a short story (24 pages.) About a spiritual experience (the Opening.) Using first person, and I honestly feel it is the best non poem writing I've ever done.

Re: I'm Writing A Book, And I Need Help!

You don't even really need to have the plot before you write.

Close your eyes.  Think about your character.  Now open your eyes and write whatever comes.

Re: I'm Writing A Book, And I Need Help!

i would rather prefer 3rd person because it feels like a disembodied voice, omniscient (all knowing) to everything and everyone in the story. It makes the story seem, i dunno...., i guess you could say that you are watching everyone and knowing what everyone does without them knowing what you're doing. Its like secretly knowing a secret someone knows but they don't know that you know it (if you understand what i mean, i hope)

Re: I'm Writing A Book, And I Need Help!

It really depends on the type of story and the feel you want to give it. Kind of like you said.

Whenever I try to write in 3rd person I always end up accidentally switching to 1st again, so I like 1st.

Hmm... I like it! Kind of like how they wrote it in the Hunger Games, where something happens, yet it is in third person. I like it very much. :3
