Old project no longer works online.
I took about a year's "vacation" from Scratch, just downloaded the newest version of it yesterday, and went to Shanesta's wonderful Archery Champion project which I remembered enjoying. But now the vertical slider doesn't work. With each shot the slider just bumps up slightly; it never moves freely up and down on its track. The horizontal slider seems to work fine. Could this be a 'version problem' with Scratch: that her project is from an earlier version? Other projects I've tried, though, work fine. Has anyone else reported problems. A friend of mine, a retired programmer, went online to the Scratch site and the Archery project and reports the same problem I'm having. Thanks!!! Larry828

I noticed that was happening too. Try downloading the project and it should work fine. It just happens because the java player developed a lot of bugs when 1.3 was released.
I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

If you tap the "shoot" button VERY quickly the up/down slider still works. I bet it would be an easy fix.
Animated sigs must be banned!

Version 1.3 was released in November of 2008. Have there been any fixes? BTW, I did download the program when I found the problems online. Result: it runs worse on my computer than it does online!! Would it help to make changes in the script for the "Shoot button" sprite? Any suggestions? It's such a great project that it's sad that it's not running correctly.

I think the problem is that the scripts were being executed differently in older versions. Now because in changes of how it works it doesn't work the same, which might cause flaws in current programs. If i could make a suggestion, maybe the java applet can detect what version of scratch the program was written in and then use that applet to run it on

Wow!! The fix **really is** easy! I added the line and the program worked immediately. Thanks, BoltBait, for not only describing the fix but giving the screenshot of the script change. What a relief to have Archery Champion fixed! BTW, is there anything that can be done to fix the online version? Is Shanesta still active? Would she consider adding that line to the program? Otherwise, would a Scratch team member be authorized to add it with a "Beta" version update and the project attributed to Shanesta?
