A common question about this thread:

What is this?
Question asked by veggieman001

This thread is a thread that has questions that people don't want to make full topic about so they post there questions here. It could be any question. This thread holds over 14 very common questions by Scratchers. I hope to get more questions as time goes on.

Vocab:

Building - A post of a broad place in Scratch
Classes - A question by a Scratcher that is posted in the appropriate building.
Course - If a question has to be split into parts, that question gets put into too the [#] amount of courses. Questions with courses are usually underlined

Re: University of Scratch

Scratch Building

Here are some classes in the Scratch Building (aka FAQ).

- When will Scratch 2.0 be out?
- What happens when I click the "Flag as Inappropriate Button"?
- How can I remix and what is a remix?
- How do I make a Flash/Java Sensor?

Okay, if you have any questions about anything, I will answer them and post them in the appropriate building.

When will Scratch 2.0 be out?
Question asked by k9lego

Scratch 2.0 might be out this year. Nobody (except the ST) know the exact date of when Scratch 2.0 might be out. It was supposed to be out last year but it got a sight delay and the date was pushed to this year.

What happens when I click the "Flag as Inappropriate Button"?
Question asked by Anonymous

When you click the "Flag as Inappropriate Button", that project/comment gets sent to the ST to see if the project/comment is inappropriate. What I am confused on is if it that project/comment gets sent to all the ST members, or just one ST member.

How can I remix and what is a remix?
Question asked by Rainyday2

You can remix by going up to the top left corner of the page, click the link that says this: "Download the X sprites and X scripts of "blah" and open it in Scratch". A remix is a project that someone downloaded, change the sprites and scripts a bit, and posted that project online.

How do I make a Flash/Java sensor?
Question asked by Haiming

Put together this script:

when gf clicked
set [player v] to [development]
go to x: (0) y: (1000)
if <((y position) + (1)) > [242]>
   set [player v] to [experimental]
end
if <((y position) + (1)) > [242.99]>
set [player v] to [Web site]
end
go to x: (-177) y: (-112)

Re: University of Scratch

Forums Building
This is the forums building. Questions about the forums are here. Here are the classes:

- What is a Bump?
- Why can't I edit a post?
- Why can't I post a message on the FAQ or the Announcements forums?
- How do I add friends

Classes:

What is a Bump?
Question asked by Haiming

A bump is a post that brings your post up to the top of the that forums. Some people have figured out that Bump actually means this:
Bump
up
my
post
This is one of the most common posts by Scratchers.

Why can't I edit a post?
Question asked by gamesman12

As you can see, New Scratchers cannot edit/delete there posts. They can't also add signatures, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Also, non-registered/non-logged in people can't edit/delete there posts.

Why can't I post a message in the FAQ or Announcements forums?
Question asked by andresmh

Course 1
Announcements Forums
No scratcher nor new scratcher can post in the Announcements forums. Most of these posts are by Admins or ST members. Though only two people that are not ST members or admins have posted in this forum, mletreat, when she was handing out t-shirts with the scratch logo on them. Also, joletole posted in this forum when he was announcing that the ST has changed any mention of pi to 3.14159265... (March 14).

Course 2
FAQ
This forum is mostly questions from normal Scratchers, so you are probably wondering, "Why can't I post in this forums." Well wonder no more, only admins or ST members can move/post stuff in the FAQ section. Now, you are probably also wondering why your post hasn't been moved there. Well these questions are only questions that are very common. Or aka Frequently Asked Questions.

How do I add friends?
Question asked by berryyogurt

This question is very simple, but one of the most common questions. You simply go to there my stuff page (http://scratch.mit.edu/users/USERNAMEHERE/). Then go right under where there name is and you will see a link that says this: "Add to Friends." Click this and you will see another message saying this: USERNAMEHERE will be notified. Okay." What a lot of New Scratchers do is they go around making friends with people they don't evan know. This can annoy a lot of people.

Re: University of Scratch

Wiki Building
This is the wiki building. I will talk about the wiki here.

The Scratch wiki is a wiki created by LukeTek on December 6, 2008. Then he passed it on to JuiceyBox, who passed it on to Lucario621.

Classes:
- How long does it take to get your account approved?
- Does my wiki account last forever?
- Can I edit anywhere on the wiki?

How long does it take to get your account approved?
Question asked by funelephant

It depends, sometimes it can take over two months, sometimes overnight. What the wiki team does is they go see someone who has requested for an account, and check there account out. If they have a bad reputation, then it might take longer for your account to get approved. Though if you have a good reputation, it will be quicker.

Does my wiki account last forever?
Question asked by funelephant

Well, unless you want to quit from the Scratch Wiki, yes, it does last forever. Or, you could get banned if you delete a lot of stuff. Though the wiki team (thankfully) has never had to ban someone so far.

Can I edit anywhere on the wiki?
Question asked by funelephant

No, some pages are locked. The wiki team does this because those pages are either really important, or they just don't want people editing on it. Though you can copy and paste the source code for that and put it in your sand box, make the changes you want to make, and the wiki team will review it. Though most articles can be edited.

Re: University of Scratch

Other Building

This building holds stuff that doesn't quite fit into the other categories.

Classes:
- ITopic: Welcome to Your Local Block Library
- Adding images back into your experience, now with videos.
- ITopic: Build Your Own Blocks (BYOB)

ITopic: Welcome to Your Local Block Library
Created by Sparks

This topic is probably one of the most important topic of the entire Scratch Community. This block library holds up to more then 350 blocks. All created by YOU. It holds three main sections, the Scratch Blocks section. The BYOB Blocks section, and the Panther Blocks section. To be exact, the Scratch Blocks section has over 167 blocks, the BYOB section has over 143 blocks, and 60 blocks in the Panther section.

This topic is much different then most topics. It is split up. You can just keep clicking links and it will never stop. Also, there are other Librarians too. Such as SSBBM, Pecola1, Scimonster, Meowmeow55, Greenactic, and the company account. What is very odd about this company is that they all know the password for the company account. Some people wonder how they shared the password together without anybody noticing. And also, some people wonder that one of the Librarians might turn on the company and destroy everything they have done, and post spam everywhere.

The only way to browse the Block Library is too download Rookwood101 Antidote Script. Or else the topic looks like a bunch of word and links. And also, you can get to where you want very quickly, because every post has too links on the bottom, one saying this:
^Back to [section] Blocks
And one saying this:
^Back to Contents
Also, all the sections say this on the bottom of the page:
^Home

Here are some blocks that are on the library:

Adding images back into your experience, now with videos!
Created by Rookwood101

A lot of people use this. It even has it's own name, The Antidote Script. Due to spam and troll attacks, the ST had to disable the img tags. Nobody was really happy about this, as almost everyone used img tags.

A little while after that Rookwood101 secretly made a thread that would make the images come back to life. He wanted to keep it secret or else the ST would disable that. Though, the ST never did anything about. Everybody was shocked. Though what a lot of people are scared of is somebody is going to use the Antidote Script to spam. Then rookwood101 would get in trouble.

This topic has come to be a very good and useful topic.

ITopic: Build Your Own Blocks (BYOB)
Created by Jens

BYOB was a software created by Jens. This is what she/he said on the beginning of here post:

"So, you want to define your own procedures and functions in Scratch?"

And that is exactly what she/he did. The whole point of BYOB is so you can create you very own block(s) and use them in the Scratch Programming Language. Lucario621 has created a discussion thread about it. The discussion thread has had over 5,000 replies.

Even I use BYOB. Though the BYOB "team" has come up with BYOB3!

Re: University of Scratch

have you just copied and pasted information from the real threads? i thought this would be more about teaching how to program, not answering questions already answered on various threads. I learnt how to screen record and convert it to JPG for this (saves every 10 frames), but I guess you won't be needing that any-more.

No, and also look at the Scratch Building. This is sort of a FAQ but for questions that are not in the FAQ (with some exceptions).
