beta has been released, at scratch day at MIT last year, i downloaded a copy. 2.0 will most likely come out at scratch day this year at MIT.

The Scratch Team confirmed that they are going to try and at absolute least release a Beta on Scratch Day. (For the web, not just at MIT)

And the "beta" you referred to in the above post is a pre-alpha, which means they still have a LOT of work to do.

I think a beta should come out on Scratch day. Hopefully the full version will. I think it's be sweet if they'd just randomly release it now, but I know it'd never happen.
