My assumption on who kaj was (for more info on this mischievous and devious scratcher go here) that he/she must have been a boy. My proof is here. As you can see from this website, it says the that name Kaj originated from Scandinavia and is male.

However, you must remember that Kaj was a username, and could have been the username of any person of any gender. The word 'kaj' could mean anything; it could be the actual name of the person; it could be a random collection of letters thrown together; it could be an abbreviation or an acronym of some name/thing connected to them.

As far as I know, Kaj registered as female, and used the site with the female pronoun, but later when contacting the Scratch Team Kaj used the male pronoun.

It is a mystery, and one that may never be answered, since you can pretend to be almost anything online.

-> But on a serious note: I guess no one will ever really know. For the most part Kaj is usually referred to as a female since that was the gender registered when signing up.
