Do you have enough money to buy a camera? That's what I did to convince my Mom to let me have my own camera.
And I was nine  smile

Re: Official Photography Topic

I found some ancient camera lenses today, and it was a beautiful day, so I decided to do a bit of experimenting. There's a picture or two of a lens I found which was absolutely MONSTROUS! It was already pretty dark when I found it, though, so I couldn't really take any good pictures with it...  hmm

Is this a good camera?

Does anybody know any relativley inexpensive ($100-$300 range) cameras that are  good? Like a Canon one?

I have a Canon Powershot ELPH 100 HS.  It seems to fit nicely in your price range, and I think it's an excellent camera.   smile

Thanks! I'll look at it. My only purchase method is Amazon.com (at costco a canon basic one costs $6,000).

EDIT: I found one  smile  Fujifilm Finepix S5200 5.1MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom.

The Canon S95 has the best image quality, but lacks some features. I still recommend it. It has full manual controls and is very portable as well.

As far as I know, the aperture goes upto f/1.8 as well.

Get a camera with better image quality.
I personally prefer 12MP.

5.1 is decent, but it won't look pretty on a big piece of paper. (letter/A4)
The canon "basic ones" ("A" series) start at 70$... Don't get them. I recommend powershot elphs, but if you want a bigger camera, then this. (Note: it might be outdated soon.)Also, it doesn't have manual control. It takes AA batteries

Ignore that camera. A bit of research tells me AAs are not good in cameras.

Re: Official Photography Topic

Well... you may not know this crazy fact, but MP are a very bad indicator of image quality. I used to have a 16MP (that's right, 16!) camera, but it had worse image quality than my 10 MP camera I have currently.

By image quality, I mean how much detail it can capture, especially when zoomed into 100%.

A better indicator of image quality is to look at image sensor size.

I've used this website

snapsort.com

as it is very useful for comparing cameras.

I know. And you shouldn't look at sensor size, you should look at pixel size.

Do you mean the size of the individual pixels? That's important too.

I have a 1/2.3 sensor :3
