Spelling and Grammar

Dear Scratch Website Monitors,
I received a message that told me to be more friendly when I correct mistakes. I agree, I have been a little mean to the people who make the unfortunate errors. However, I must use some force to make sure those users learn from their mistakes.
But the monitor who wrote the message has obviously not read any of my comments or reads the dictionary daily, like I do. He or she misspelled "grammar", using the common error of replacing the second "a" with an "e". I hope that you pay attention to spelling and grammar, and you will become even more intelligent.
                         Sincerely,
                GrammarPolice911
P.S Do not post so many replies, it takes a long time to read all of them and correct mistakes.

Re: Spelling and Grammar

I don't think you are supposed to be correcting mistakes like that in the first place.

Re: Spelling and Grammar

I can see that you're a stickler for grammar, but looking at some of your comments, you fail to do one thing: consider your audience.

Perhaps you do not mean to come off as mean (and yes, I have read your comments), but do consider the audience before you type in your comment. Some users may be old enough to understand and will most likely accept your corrective comments, while others may see it as useless, pointless and (in the case of young children who are still in the process of learning grammar and spelling in school) as being mean.

In this case of a post, you come off as egotistic, especially in your postscript.

Grammar is important, but getting the message across to the audience plays a more important role when communicating. If the message is taken in the wrong way, then your efforts have been in vain, and you accomplish nothing.

It's fine, but generally, the Internet is where people relax from all those rules. Usually, you kind of act superior to everybody you comment on, and that is never an effective way. (Next project up for that user: "whoo cares about grammerpolece?") Try relaxing your standards a little. (Emphasis on a little. I also cringe at typos sometimes)

Re: Spelling and Grammar

seriously, you have to realize not everyone is a freak about grammer like you. Not saying ur a like total nerd, its just not something every1 does. Like she how i used the "1" in everyone? its faster, and on the internet, no one is grading you so it doesn't matter if others understand it. like LOL is farely universal, so lots of people no it. Ok?

Dear Scratch Users,
I'm done with scratch, or at least making projects. I have made one last big game, thats both fun and teaches a lesson about water. It'd mean a lot if you gave me feedback.                              http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/bosox397/569201

Touché.

I am kind of a grammar freak also.  I'll sometimes edit my posts two or three times if something is wrong.

Re: Spelling and Grammar

You're a freak about grammar. You made an account but you've posted no projects or created any gallerys, you made it purely to correct people's grammar. I mean someone might type a "u" instead of a "you" but they just do it to save time also people write "OMG" instead of "oh my god" but it can offend people if you don't abreviate it. Now shut up and get a life  smile

Please do not be mean on scratch.Grammarpolice911 was only trying to help you correct your grammar. That does not mean to disrespect he/she.The Scratch community is very strict when it comes to respect for all so please do not be disrespectful. No matter how funny you want to be there is zero tolerance for disrespect.

Now you are acting like Grammerpolice911. You're always telling people to respect eachother, and most of the time i see no offencive stuff in the post/comment(not this time apparently)

GrammarPolice911 was trying to correct people's grammar, but the way it was being conducted was often unnecessary and, with consideration to the main age group of the website, is bleedingly close to mean and ridiculous (see if you can dig up GrammarPolice911's previous posts via the custom Google search provided on the main site, and you'll understand what I mean).

FunnyDude, I know this a fairly recent topic, but you resurrecting the topic with harsh words towards others is not helpful - it is degrading to you and the rest of the SCRATCH community. I sense a flame war about to occur, so I propose the topic be closed.

Re: Spelling and Grammar

Okay...let me summarize.  Not everybody likes to have their grammer corrected.  In fact, some people find it annoying, particularlly when it's done in a less-than-tactful way.

This isn't an English grammer site...it's a Scratch Programming site.  So maybe we can see a little less focus on the grammer and more focus on the programming  smile
