When will Java die?

Java is very slow, verbose and a chore to learn... the only merit to its name is its portability. Do you think it will die any time soon?

Re: When will Java die?

Java is great though there are some areas where it doesn't preform well.

Find someone post count. Click posts under username. Find number of pages. Times that by 40 for min and 60 for max and you have a rough estimate of post count.

Say me a interpreted language which is faster than Java.
And if you want it very fast, you have to learn assembly...

You hurt me and TRocket if you say something like that!  wink

Re: When will Java die?

I don't think Java will die because it's not that hard to learn and cross-platform. It's already died from internet embedded usage mostly though.

Python is slow, but easy to learn and read. Java will die when we program with our minds.

Ask me what I'm doing, wait an hour than roll a die, if it's 4-6, I'm playing Skyrim, if it's 1, I'm eating, if it's 2-3 I'm programming.

Re: When will Java die?

Java powers most devices in the world

Take Android for example, That runs java on a modified linux kernel.

Wait... Android IS coded in java.

Re: When will Java die?

Java is not slow, and won't die. Plus, theres way more than just java script, so the other things attract people to it.

I read somewhere that C# was created because Microsoft was trying to control Java to be more adapted to Windows, but Sun stopped letting that happen, so they created C# instead.

JavaScript is not Java. JS is a webpage scripting language, but Java is a desktop programming language.

Re: When will Java die?

I'm currently taking Java in school...I bet I would have liked it if I learned it on my own, but because of this class, I'm never using Java again.  mad

Compile once, fun anywhere... I mean run anywhere.

Did you know that many "dumbphones" run Java?

Java is an amazing language that was revolutionary then and now and into the future, and because of its widespreadness, it is unlikely to die anytime soon  smile
