I have a few questions. Does this mean that Scratch 2.0 will have 25 instruments total? Also, what's the size of the current Scratch sample library?
I had a feeling you will ask this (xD)

I think you guys should see the samples in FL_Studio . that is an industrial software but has a very high amount of instrument samples bundled to it .
Why I suggest FL_Studio
It uses a similar approach to what it seems to me that scratch team did , low level music processing ?

But it's a large amount of space required on the computer, and that's not what they want to do.

FL_Studio samples are not public domain...
Public domain is probably sampling REAL instruments with a good microphone, someone else could do the processing and conversion of these samples.

Hey everyone - it's also possible to Make your own soundfonts, which would be awesome....
How about persuading a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_school
to join the bandwagon? (at least for sampling instruments)

*1 million facepalm* a sample on fruitly loops is hardly 100kb cause the processiong software is too pro to handle the conversion itself. and i never want scratch team to import the whole fruity loops [ boy that'd be awesome but ... um useless ]

It lists some soundfonts there. I use TimGM6mb.sf2, and it's very good. If you've ever used the MuseScore notation program (which I use), it's the default one.
I will restate that TimGM6mb.sf2 is very good for its size (5.7 MB).

If scratch team asks for educational purposes FL studio team might give em a lot of samples as a nice gift :-) , whats wrong in trying ?
also then there is LMMS same approach and i think its portable to adobes "actionscript" [ i myself is porting it to JavaScript and mozAudio for a project ]

what about making a browser extension?
that might not work because everyone would have to get the extension, and it wouldn't work at all if we are going to use a browser we made ourselves.
(I'm making a browser right now in Java)
