`~Epically Failing at Starting Minecraft Server~'

HELP GUYS. Yeah, again. I was running my server fine, and then I updated and then:

[INFO] Starting minecraft server version 1.2.4
[INFO] Loading properties
[INFO] Starting Minecraft server on 192.168.2.5:25565
[WARNING] **** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT!
[WARNING] The exception was: java.net.BindException: Cannot assign requested address: JVM_Bind
[WARNING] Perhaps a server is already running on that port?

I wasn't running a server. I did what WindowsExplorer said and left out the IP address in the server properties... and then nobody could get into it. Please help me -_-

Here are some suggestions:
Reload this web page later.

Maybe someone changed the IP range on the router. The router's IP usually your IP, but the last number after the 3rd dot is 1).

On my LAN, I am 192.168.0.5, so my router is 192.168.0.1.  Same way if the final number is more than one digit. If you are 192.168.1.195, the router is 192.168.1.1.

I've tried both of them: 192.168.1.5 and 192.168.1.1, but when I put any of them in, it won't work.

Hmmm......  hmm

Try 192.168.0.1.

If that doesn't work., my only remaining idea is the web interface might be turned off. Get PuTTY, and try to telnet or SSH into the router (Trying 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, and 192.168.2.1).

Re: `~Epically Failing at Starting Minecraft Server~'

Instead of guessing your router's address, why not just go locate it? Assuming you're on Windows, hit the Windows key + r to bring up a run dialog, then into that enter "cmd", which will open up your command prompt. From there, enter in "ipconfig" and you should get a bunch of information regarding your network connections. Scroll down until you see a label for the "Default gateway", and enter that number into your url bar.

After you port forward...

MAKE SURE you are using your external IP to connect.

From what I understand, he can't log into his router to port forward in the first place.

Re: `~Epically Failing at Starting Minecraft Server~'

Search using Google "What is my ip"
It will say at the top "Your IP address is..."
Copy this and paste it in the URL bar and press enter.
It should ask for a username and password, these can normally be found on the router.
Follow the instructions to portforward from the link others have suggested.
