I used to keep my notifications, but I recently deleted them, even though I hadn't read this post yet. I did that because I was noticing a major increase on my loading times, and it really ticked me off >.<

What would be a reasonable time intervals of deleting your notifications? In other words, how often should you delete your notifications?

It probably depends on how often you get notifications. For example, someone who get 10 notifications an hour is going to have to delete there notifications a lot more then someone who only gets 2 notifications per day.

I read and delete my notifications the second I get them. The most notifications I've had at one time is 18.

You know on the main site there's a "You have # messages" thing at the top? It's them.

What if I receive 20 messages a day (which I do) and all of them are people friending me. Can I keep those.

I've noticed a lot of people keep their messages to keep track of how many they've had.
To solve this problem, but allow people to see their total messages, perhaps there should be a "total messages" counter on the notifications page.

here is a possible fix make it so that a message will be deleted in 5 days after notification unless the user decides to star it (making it stay until deleted manually)

No. All messages must be deleted. I think you have the option of turning friending messages off though.
