Is punk becoming classic rock?

On some classic rock stations I've been listening to, some early 80's punk is starting to be played every now and then. Today I heard The Clash on one and on a different one, they've been playing The Pretends repeatedly.

Have you started hearing punk on classic rock stations? Discuss.

(Note - I'm not bagging on punk or anything, I'm just stating an observation I made.)

no

Classic rock originates from the 60s.

Punk does not.

You kind of just missed several points.

Classic rock is not just sixties and currently by standard definition extends from the fifties to the early eighties, depending on the band.

And yes, I've heard some punk like the Clash on classic rock stations.

Mostly around the 60s.

I don't think I get any classic rock stations where I am...

Not really. Things like Journey, Yes, Queen, &c. are considered classic rock at least where I'm from.

Same. Classic rock and punk spilt away in the 80s. This is a topic I'm not so good, but ask my dad, he has alot of classic rock.

Yeah, pretty much all the time now.

TBH I don't really mind though since I like them equally.

Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say. I never want to let you down or have you go, it's better off this way.

Re: Is punk becoming classic rock?

No, but maybe the radio people (DJ's?) ran out of good songs?

Youse guys are lucky it's just The Clash, we get Offspring on ours.

I basically switched from 103.3 to 92.9 after discovering the song Tyler by The Toadies a few weeks ago, for you boston area radio people

I used to like them a lot, but I only like a few of their songs now, as my taste in music has matured a bit.

Re: Is punk becoming classic rock?

Classic rock isn't even a 'genre' of music, it's just a certain way that radio stations can group music; and is merely determined by the age/prestige of the bands. You can hear all kinds of 'rock' on classic rock stations, so yes once punk gets to be of that age you should expect to hear it.
