Try Google Sketchup, it's one of the easiest and fastest tools for beginners.
I have it. I want something like a mix of Blender and Sketchup- not too basic, not too hard.

I've heard Wings3D is quite good.
It's free and opensource as well.

One word: Uru. Look it up. It is epic. Levels can be made for it using Blender.

Does anyone know how to create grass in Blender?
Or lowpoly, realistic vegetation/trees?
Try one of these tutorials (depending on what you want):

Tab into edit mode, select the faces you want to texture differently, and assign the material you want.
If you want to give the entire object a new texture, select it in object mode, click 'x' to delete the current material (it doesn't delete the material, only the link to the material) and choose a new one.

Just got it. Used to have it on my other computer but didn't bother downloading it on this one.

Blender isn't too hard once you learn how to use the basic tools. If you're still interested, here's a set of video tutorials I'm currently using to learn - they only cover the very basics, but so far, I've learned a lot. I'm currently trying to model some concepts for vehicles I drew for a Tyrian fangame.

Well, I just followed a windmill tutorial and here's the result :3 Pretty good for my first actual rendered image, I guess. I tried to animate it by making the blades rotate but kinda failed.
And this is my progress so far with a ship from Tyrian: [link]

That's quite good for your first render.

Blender is the best free 3d software.
I agree. Thanks for bumping it.

It would be interesting to see Blender and GIMP ported to tablet platforms. It's open source, so the biggest challenge would be changing to touch controls.

I think there is a tablet version of blender.
Stupid 60-second rule.
