I have one growing in the kitchen, but because it's still cold here in New York City, the plant hasn't been outside (so it hasn't seen much sunlight), so it's kind of suffering. And many of the traps had to be snipped because they were rotten. And it had flowers last summer so it has little energy to generate new traps. It's still alive and green though, and I'm hoping it gives more traps when spring comes around.
i recommend you use a lamp with a florescent light bulb
it gives almost the perfect amount of fake sunlight
Still doesn't really beat out real light, though.
The one I have does some sunlight from a cool blue fluorescent. But it's kind of still dry and cool here in NYC. I'm thinking about possibly converting my old fish tank into a terrarium for growing so the conditions are more ideal.

when i was little I planted a sunflower in a pot which died in a week does that count?
... How do you kill a sunflower in a week?
As for Venus flytraps, I think part of the reason they're so pathetic-looking is that they're so small, and generally we (only me?) think of them as pretty big, plus the sadness about the rotting thing. Longwood Gardens has a really nice carnivorous plant display, it has some sundews and pitcher plants (which are actually native in my area) in addition to the obligatory flytraps.
One of the world's largest pitcher plants (Nepenthes rajah) is used by shrews as a toilet, and some species can only survive in it
And about the bunnies and Bambi eating your plants, there are three options: grow plants indoors, make a really high fence that is also lined with rocks on the outside so bunnies can't dig in (that's how my mom does it to plant vegetables), or grow things around the outside like ridiculously hot peppers (like the kind you have to wear gloves just to touch) and porcupine tomatoes.
As with the watering thing, you could... do more research?

Omigosh I love gardening! Just yesterday, I asked Mom if I could have a garden in the backyard, and she said yes!!!!! I apparently had perfect timing because the first week of May is the best time to plant flowers. I would probably want to grow foxglove. The
area I have is shady, so I can't plant any flowers that need direct sunlight. What do you think I should plant?

Foxgloves look awesome I really love my columbines and one bleeding heart, which both did great in the shade. Plus, if you live in DE and the surrounding region, they're native! I also like moss for ground cover, though it's not very easy to get. Other things:
- Hosta (though this has only some flowers, it's mostly just leaves. But pretty leaves.)
- Fuchsias
- Grape hyacinths (only for part shade, though)
- Lamb's ears
- Primroses
- Violets (love love love these)
- Forget-me-nots
- Dutchman's breeches (these are amazing because they really look like pants, look it up)
- Lily of the valley
