Debating Official Topic

Discuss debating here.
Which speaker are you usually? Have you won any debates? Does your school even have debating groups and competitions?

I'm usually third speaker, which means I rebut the other team's points.
I fail miserably at first but am alright with second.

I believe my school has a speech and debate team, but I am not a member. I am notoriously bad at talking.  tongue

Re: Debating Official Topic

In our school, we have a Council, which is pretty much a debate group.

I am a member of it, and I had to conduct a survey on school uniform policy changes.

Never joined, never will.

Re: Debating Official Topic

I like being the second speaker. It's probably the easiest.

We're having a debate meet next week, but my teacher/our coach got fired and so we don't have a coach anymore.

Re: Debating Official Topic

We have a debate team but I'm too lazy to actually sign up for anything
I do a lot of debating with my mom though
Mom: Clean your room.
Me: Why? It's my room.
Mom: It's in my house.
Me: By your argument, it's in your house and therefore belongs to you, so shouldn't you clean it?
Mom: *commence the lecture*

debating is actually pretty fun. we don't have a group or anything at our school, but some teachers do it as a class room thing

Re: Debating Official Topic

I do like arguing, but not with people who just ignore all your points to put one point across. Like my stepdad back when I lived down south.

*I come home and find my dsi with a split screen which has come off its hinges buried in a box*
*I am annoyed because I spent 24 weeks saving up for it (£5 a week, cost £120)*
Me-"Why is my dsi broken?"
Him-"I don't know, you always leave it lying around, your weights probably fell on it."
"I don't put my weights up high, it's a safety concern, and even if they did fall on it why is is in a box?"
"Well how am I meant to know?"
"Maybe my sisters did it."
"No, they've been out all day, I've been the only one home."
"Well maybe it was Button?" (My dog)
"No, I haven't heard anything all day."
"So two 14kg weights fell a meter and a half onto my dsi, my dsi buried itself in Lego, the weights climbed back up the wardrobe, your wallet wanted in so it decided to sit on the side and all of this happened silently?"
"I said that something fell on it, so it did, get in your room and don't come out until tomorrow."

The day before he was getting angry because I was swearing under my breath because the camera was screwing me over on a game, he decided to come in and turn it off making me lose 5 hours of gameplay and I had to start again, I did and I got even more angry because I had to do it again.

Offtopic, CheeseMunchy, your signature looks weird whenever I blink.

Goodbye, Scratch. I am leaving because of the exams coming up at our school, though I'll check the forums once or twice a week.

Re: Debating Official Topic

I dunno if my school has one, but if it did, I would TOTALLY join it.
I love arguing, and whenever we do a debate in class I always win

Yes, it's quite interesting arguing, especially in competitions.
I don't normally argue, so debating is a good way for me to catch up on arguments.
