Messages on the Forums

Hey everyone,

So something is really annoying me on Scratch right now. Now when I go on the forums I have to go through all of the collaboration, show and tell, and announcements. Then I have to go back through and reply. I think that they should have a thing at the top where it shows how many replies you got on the show and tell forums post or on a suggestions post. Just like we have on the Scratch projects and homepage.

So this is what the messages would look like:

Messages

joletoletest replied to your post (How to change the Environment ) on Show and Tell.
joletoletest quoted your reply on the post (Scratch is the Best! ) on the Requests.

And yes, the blue underlined stuff would lead to the post.

If you have any questions just reply below.

Re: Messages on the Forums

The forums are based on an old FluxBB system, so, to my knowledge, there really isn't a way to get notifications for forum replies to forum comments you have made.

There was once an e-mail daily digest function, but that seems to have been broken and I'm not sure when that will get fixed as most of the focus is on Scratch 2.0 right now.  hmm

Re: Messages on the Forums

hmm...but if you post a lot, suddenly you will have a ton of messages to deal with! (not to mention delete,) it sounds neat, but really, I can't imagine how it could be that practical.  hmm

I completely support.
Perhaps there could be a 'forums notifications' link?

Re: Messages on the Forums

No. We don't need this! You can always just go to look at the posts manually if it's marked as unread! If you post a lot, this could be a problem, because you would get literally about 800 messages a day! The messages on the main site aren't really even needed, so why would we need this for the Forums? People who have topics that are stickied would get way too many notifications!

EDIT: look on this. Chapter 12 is similar for this suggestion.

Thats why I think we need to be able to disable messages on certain topics, and only get the messages you want to get  wink

Oh yeah, that would be good! Maybe we should be able to disable all messages?  hmm

Goodbye, Scratch. I am leaving because of the exams coming up at our school, though I'll check the forums once or twice a week.

Re: Messages on the Forums

Hmmm...
Well, for the moment, someone could code a simple userscript to add an icon to the right of "logout", which directly linked to the "Your posts" page.
And if they had the spare time, make it count the topics with new posts in them by saving the data of the page each time you visit then comparing.  It would delete the backup before the most recently used one each time, so it didn't take up a ton of cache space either.

But yes, this would be nice to implement into the forums, but sadly wouldn't actually be very easy to.
