I have to give a speech on "How my Optimism Helps me Overcome Obstacles"
Please give feedback
Here it is: How my Optimism Helps me Overcome Obstacles.
My Optimism helps me keep going when I get down on myself; when I encounter hindrances. Without optimism, I would not have accomplished half of what I have already. In soccer, I am the goalie, and without optimism my job would be twice as hard, and not as much fun. When I first started goalkeeping, I was decent, but not great, and got scored on a lot. Then, I broke my middle finger in the goal. Without optimism, I would have quit then and there. Optimism is what keeps me going to surmount the obstacles that I face, and continue towards reaching my goals.
Soccer is my favorite sport, and is loads of fun. But it also includes obstacles, especially for the goalie. You have to be brave enough to purposely put yourself in front of shots that are going 10-20 MPH. There is always the chance that you fumble a catch, and then get scored on, or injured. Than there is the fact that the outcome of the game is very dependent on your performance. If you make one mistake, your team may lose may lose directly because of that mistake.I have made such mistakes, but instead of getting down on myself, I took it as a learning experience, so that I would not make the same mistake again. I have accumulated injuries, two broken middle fingers, but instead of giving up, I kept trying. I have had the ball fly at my face at high speed, but instead of hiding in the corner so it wouldn’t hit me, I learned how to handle it so it did not hurt too much, but also did not go in the goal. I have had lots of help to get to where I am today, like good coaching, lots of practice, and starting at an early age, but what has helped me the most has been my ability to learn from anything and everything that goes wrong.
Glasses are very annoying. I would be very happy to not have to wear them. Unfortunately, I have to. I am legally blind without glasses, which means that my vision is below a -2 prescription (please do not ask me to count fingers). Being legally blind means that without glasses I cannot read more than a foot from my face, tell what is happening around me, or function without glasses. (unfortunately, its illegal for me to drive without glasses too.) Even though they are necessary, glasses are a real pain. They are expensive, easy to lose, and fragile. I need new glasses every year, and have had vision therapy three times. I always hope that some super genius will figure out how to fix my eyes without surgery. Until then, I just need to go on, like I always have.
I have a very active life with four sports, youth group, and trying to have fun with friends. Unfortunately, that leaves me with maybe two hours a day to do homework, and I have tons to do, so I end up not being able to do what I want to. Since I have to do homework all the time, it is a challenge to fit what I want to do into my day. Occasionally I have a day where I don’t have much homework to do, when I can fit in what I want to do. Sadly, this is maybe once every two weeks, so the only time I can do what I want to is on the weekends.
What has helped me overcome the challenges that face me is my ability to take even the most bitter of disappointments as learning opportunities. When I failed to turn in a big project on time, I learned not to procrastinate. When I did poorly on a test, I learned to study. When I make a mistake, I learn how to not repeat it again. This is a major part of how I overcome my obstacles in all aspects of my life.
Love it?? Hate it?? Tell me!!

It's good ^^ It's written in a really interesting way as well. Normally I'd just go "bleugh, wall of text" and skim over it, but the way it was written encouraged me to read it all :3
I wish I could be more optimistic. Everyone I know says I'm the most pessimistic person they know :|

I used to wear glasses.
Nice speech though. It was pretty long so to be honest I did skim over it.
Yep, but it still isn't long enough

Interesting.
Formalize your language and it will read smoother and more professionally.
Try also varying your sentence lengths.
Thanks for the ideas , i'll try that

I liked the way it was written - very engaging
One thing is that the "optimism" part didn't come up a lot in the middle part (with the glasses and such). I think it would be better to try to include a part about how optimism keeps you from being so depressed about the glasses part.
Also, I wear glasses too so there's that.

very well written! I like it! It is much better than the imaginative instructions I had to write. Yeah... Imaginative instructions in 5th grade...
Anyway, it made me think, and that's very good, because really good writing is what makes me really think!
