The thing is, in the Johnny depp version, there is a load of non relevant stuff. Father is a dentist. So?
Also, Wonka acts as if he hates the children, like he WANTS to get rid of them.
The only good thing about the Johnny depp version, is the way Charlie is shown. He is shown as a friendly kid, but in the Gene Wilder version, he just seems like a plain old brat.

That's part of the joke. He only liked nice children. After all, who wants to be friends with a brat?! And his dad being a dentist added a reason why he was miserable and couldn't say "parents". The charlie thing I agree with though. The old one was an idiot.

I'm torn, 'cause I grew up watching the Gene Wilder version, but the Johnny Depp version is a lot more interesting. I'd have to say the Gene Wilder version, because it sticks more to the plot. The Johnny Depp version strays far from the plot at times, and it makes Charlie seem like he's some perfect little angel, but, truth is, NO kid is. Everyone makes mistakes! I believe that the kids are better in the Gene Wilder one, because the Johnny Depp kids are all bratty and mean.

I have to dissagree. The old charlie was a jerkbutt. The new one if much more caring and responsible like in the book. and tell me just WHEN in the book did charlie steal fizzy lifting drinks, the oompa loompas sing a corny song about themselves and eating too much candy, and WHERE did veruca fall down a CHOCOLATE EGG CHUTE?! IT. WAS. SQUIRRELS. NOT. EGGS.

About the lifting drinks, I read the book (without help if you're going to ask) when I was about 5. Then I watched the movie. I spent a really long time trying to find that part in the book, and then I asked my mom and she said it was just in the movie.
I don't remember much about Charlie, sorry.

New one.YOU ROCK!...Woo-Hoo! :3
Yeah!
Hey, since when did Verruca fall down a chocolate egg shute? It was squirrels. And since when was Slugworth massively involved on the plot? And why does Wonka own a collection of things in half and sing random rhymes that have no relevance?

Here's my story, guys.
When I was four years old, CatCF came out in theaters.
Needless to say, it's the version I grew up loving.
Johnny's Willy Wonka was a character I grew up with. We had so much in common. We were quirky, imaginative, silly, and somewhat kooky. People found both of us annoying, but we stayed just as weird and crazy as ever. Even though the puppet scene still scares me, I grew up loving the characters, the scenery, the songs, EVERYTHING. I used to sing the Mike Teavee song ALL the time.
Then, when I was five, I saw the Wilder version.
In a dark bedroom.
It. scared. the. living. CRUD. out. of. me.
Now, don't get me wrong, I suppose the old movie has it's charm, but it's not the one I grew up with.
The Gene Wilder Wonka made me scared whenever I saw him. He was just so... uncanny. Even when he was happy and friendly, he frightened me. He wasn't anything like the Wonka I remembered, and many other things in the movie were different. It confused and scared me to no end.
In 2011, I found my CatCF book, one that I bought when the movie came out. It had JD on the cover and had a section in the book with movie pictures and quotes. After reading it, I LOVED it. However, I noticed it was much more similar to the CatCF I grew up with, and a lot less like the Gene Wilder one. Therefore, I personally have grown to like CatCF more that WWatCF.
I loved Johnny's character, I loved the similarity to the book, and I loved EVERYTHING.
I don't want to fight, but I think I'll always like the Burton version best.
