Old topics being brought back by new users - what can we do?

Recently, a lot of topics from over a year ago have been resurrected by some users who don't seem to understand the ordering of topics. I've been rather annoyed by this; people asking for advertisements on a game that was never made (though planned for a year ago) is a bit hard to control. Is there anything we can do about this?

Re: Old topics being brought back by new users - what can we do?

Some forums on other websites have made it a habit to lock topics that have not been posted in for a certain amount of time (usually something like a year. It depends on who manages the forum). In cases where this is not practical, a necropost rule is usually issued and often placed as a closed topic sticky at the top of the forum.

The latter suggestion won't stop all necroposts, but it may help prevent its spread.

Maybe the SCRATCH team may consider some kind of necropost regulation or rule of some sort?

Yeah that would help!
BTW why do you always write scratch like this: "SCRATCH"

I've taken a long hiatus, but I still visit sometimes. Give me some time to answer any messages you post on my projects!

I noticed that too ^^
@Cheddargirl - Instead of locking the topic, maybe put a big notice saying "OLD" if it hasn't been active for a week or two?

I do it out of habit. The official logo is done in capital letters, so, the idea that SCRATCH needs to be in capitals has always been embedded in my mind. (There, see, I did it again).

at coolstuff: Hmm, that could be a good idea. It might deter people from posting in old topics unless it was absolutely relevant and significant.  smile

Mods need to lock topics more often

Maybe the mods can lock old topics that have been necroposted and the necropost isn't relevant.

That is what I meant to say cheddar girl. I meant to say lock instead of lack, my typing level goes down a lot when I need sleep  tongue

Maybe you are right...I hate to close off communication on a topic unnecessarily but it does get annoying to see all these zombie threads coming back to life.  Maybe there is some sort of automatic function that could be applied....let me look around.

I remember that game...  neutral
But it has become quite annoying. We should really lock those old Tsunami_Enterprises threads.

And a user wanting to know how to add friends brought back a topic that was last posted in about 1 year and 355 days ago(when they posted it)
Will they ever learn...

It happens often when users don't find active posts that are interesting to them. Then they bring back old topics.
