This is my 3rd attempt to become curator. As a curator I would mostly curate projects that are either animations or platformer(ish) games. I would follow these guidelines

Less than 30 views
less than 15 love its
more than 40 seconds of gameplay or animation
score highest on my ratings
scratcher's projects haven't been on the front page for over a month

I would try to put new projects up every 3rd day. I would see if the game or animation goes 'above and beyond' with it's programming skills or art/animation skills. This is the ratings guidelines (for use above)

Animations
Art (quality of the graphics): /5
Animation skills (frame rate, actually animating, costumes, etc...): /25
Length (6 for 40 seconds 10 for over 119 seconds): /10

I would then convert it to out of 100

Games
Graphics (quality of the graphics): /10
Gameplay (the feel of the game/difficulty: /25
Length (estimated time taken to get bored of the game) (<40 not curated, 40-50 6/10 >120 10/10):  /10
programming skills: /5

convert it to /100

I would compare all the scores and the 3 with the highest score will be curated.

Here is an example of a scoring
(link to project)

Game
Graphics:  9/10
Gameplay:  22/25
Length:  10/10
programming skills:  4/5

90/100

Thank you for your consideration,
Max Flyboy

I can tell you would make a great curator but you're not really telling us what you would curate. you didn't use any real describing words like funny projects, clever ones, creative ones, or anything like that.  in my app. i gave examples of real projects that i would curate and i explained what i liked about them. and it worked!  smile  try something like that.  big_smile

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

Hello.
I am S-C-R-A-T-C-H-E-R. The name doesn't explain too much about me, except for the fact that I am truly a dedicated scratcher. I am fairly new, yet I have enjoyed something that many scratchers who have been on for years have never known--fame. At the time I am posting this, I currently have 2 of my best projects on the front page. Why should I be telling this to you? Because as someone who has had the experience of having their projects on the front page, I know how it feels to see your project up there, with your name below it, for all to see. I know how it feels to have people viewing and loving your projects. How it feels to know that you are making somebody happy, even just for a little while.

The only reason I want to be a curator, is so that I can make sure that scratchers who work hard and make excellent projects could experience that warm glow of happiness at seeing the projects that they worked days and days on displayed on the front page. As a curator, I would curate any kind of projects, with any kind of theme. I wouldn't curate anything with bad launguage, innaproppreate themes, or any kind of content parents wouldn't feel safe with.  smile  That's a guarentee.

If I would become a curator, I wouldn't curate any projects under two weeks old. I think older scratchers who have never been on the front page but have excellent projects should be the first to be curated. I would try to switch the projects I curated every two or three days, not only so people would not be bored, but so many people would get to have there projects on the front page.

Here is an estimate of the formula I would use as a curator:

PROJECTS:

~ Shared more than 2 weeks ago
~ Less than 40 views
~ Less than 15 love-its

Some things I would look for in certian areas of projects:

GAMES:
~Good Graphics
~Smooth, Non-Glitched Gameplay
~A plot, or storyline
~ Advanced programming
~ Good Character Development
~ High Engagement level

ANIMATIONS:
~Good Graphics
~Creative Storyline/Characters
~Good Voice-Acting/Voices
~Lengthy
~high-quality

PUZZLES:
~Difficult, but not too difficult
~Engaging gameplay for all ages
~A clear description of how the game works in-game

here are the things I will be looking at in projects if I become curator:

~Graphics
~Quality
~Music/Audio
~Glitches ( tongue )
~Engagement level
~Age levels
~Length
~Creativity

~~~
Here are two projects that I would curate, and the reasons why I would curate them. (If I became Curator, I would not actually curate these games. They are simply examples. The only reason Why I wouldn't curate them, is because they already have too many views.)
Blocko 2
Blocko 2 is a game, a platform game to be more specific. The main character is an orange block with a face. Though it doesn't sound like much, Blocko is actually a very fun, interesting main character.
The music for Blocko 2 is lively, relaxed, and just plain fun. It fits the easygoing game perfectly, making it only one of the reasons I would curate Blocko 2.
The game is easy to understand. The controls are simple, and the text at the beginning of each level will explain the basics of the game to users who have never played before. The text, as it sometimes is, is funny and witty, and will sprinkle on some humor to what may seem to be 'just another platformer'.
The game features velocity, which usually makes for smooth gaming. This is no exception, and the bugs are minor enough to be ignored, and do not have a huge impact on how the game is run.
The game is hard enough, but not so hard that the player will just give up in frusteration. The levels slowly get harder, so that new players can build up their skills little by little.
The whole game is very enjoyable, and if it didn't have so many views already, I would definitely curate it!
~
Real 3D Revolution
Real 3D revolution is a 3D rendering simulator on scratch. It was designed to help new scratchers unfamiliar with 3D rendering get a head-start.
From what I have seen, R3DR is a glitch-free experience. The rendering is quick, and the scripts are spot-on and easy to follow.
Real 3D Revolution has no sound, being a 3D rendering simulator, and I (personally,) don't think it needs it!
R3DR has variables that are adjustable online. Each variable changes the 3D field. What I like about R3DR, is that it allows you to switch from a easy-to-understand interface, to a complex one, for more advanced renderers.
You can also save your data, and go back to it later. Saving works perfectly, with absolutely no glitches whatsoever. If the simulation was great before the save, now it is perfect!
R3DR is an excellent project, and no matter what, I would suggest you click the link and try it out!
~~~

I hope you will at least consider for me to become a curator. I may not be the oldest, most experienced S-C-R-A-T-C-H-E-R, but I am dedicated.

We choose curators that represent the diversity of the Scratch Community - girls, boys, gamers, storytellers, animators - Scratchers of all kinds! We especially like to choose Scratchers who have been helpful and contributing members of the Scratch community.

When applying to be curator, it's good to give some thought to the kind of projects you'd like to show. "Cool projects that most people have never seen!" is a nice idea, but it doesn't really give us a good sense of what you like and why. We want to know what makes a project interesting to you.

Try viewing the projects in your favorites, and see if you can find a theme that describes them. Talk about that theme in your post on this thread, and consider providing a few links to good examples of that theme.

For example, I really like projects that use sound input from the microphone to draw interesting designs on the screen. Here's an example of one that I recently added to my favorites: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/MitFan/874786

I would love to become a curator! I would like to show all kinds of projects that are unique and helpful for example tutorials on how to make a platform game or a scrolling game. I would not show my projects because that would just be rude. Thanks, and please reply!  smile   smile   smile   lol   big_smile   big_smile   big_smile

How would you rate projects to see if you would curate them? Maybe you could link some projects that you would consider, and give reasons why you would consider them. Why do you even want to be a curator? I'm sure there's plenty more, too, but that's pretty much all I can give you

CatPerson's Curator Application:
All of us know that you do not get A's in class or exceed on tests by doing average. So why should an average project get chosen to be curated? I think that people should put hard work into their projects or games to be curated. If people can see the hard work put into the projects that are being curated then it might influence more scratchers to put a good amount of effort into their projects.
I would also pick well done animations and games. I think that people should see the funny animations that people went above and beyond on, and worked pretty hard.
While others might say they will choose the "right" projects, I say that there is no right or wrong; we like what we like.

I would really like to be a curator.  I like platformers, RPGs, or any type of fun or interesting games.  If I became curator I would look for the best, most fun, games I can find and curate them.  I would also curate cool or funny animations, OSs, or anything else that I think the scratch community would like to see.  Please consider me as an option for curators.   smile

Being a curator isn't just saying a project that you will curate if you become one. Why do you want to be a curator? What kind of projects would you curate and why? What is so great about that mirror project that makes you want to curate it? Try a paragraph at the minimum  wink

If you have other accounts, you should have applied with those accounts, because the rule still stands, the account you are using is a new scratcher, therefor it cannot be a curator.

A tip if you want to be a curator: actually post why you should be a curator, what you would curate, etc. You will NOT be curator by posting something along the lines of:

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

Hello, this is hungergamesfanatic (HGF)
I would like to be a curator because I would love to make people who aren't very popular on Scratch be known. I would also curate funny projects. I would include projects such as: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/wolves4ever10/2360239
I will curate projects, that are special and have something unique about them, projects that took a lot of work and are well made, projects that are good but didn't take much work that still deserve more views. I will especially choose the projects that are extraordinarily good, but have few views.
Projects that I won't curate are:
Anything by my friends just because their my friends, I might curate them if they are very well made and still don't have many views.
Anything that was on the front page recently.
Nothing by a very well-known Scratcher especially if they have been on the front page in the last 2 weeks.
If someone tries to bribe me I will definitely NOT curate it.
I would like to be a curator but if I don't get the position, congrats to to whoever does
Thanks,
          HGF

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

What I'd Curate
________________
I'd curate projects that don't have very much views or love-its.
I'd curate projects that the user worked on for weeks, or even months.
I'd curate projects that are 1s1s, scrolling, paint editors, platformers, etc.
I'd curate projects that would be helpful to New Scratchers

What I would not curate
_______________________
I would not curate random, absolutely useless projects.
I would not curate projects that have bad words.
I would not curate projects that have blood.
I would not curate projects that are famous.
I would not curate projects that have been curated before.

I'm not interested in fame, I'm interested in helping other Scratchers. If I am not elected curator, it's fine with me.
Thanks,
