It's a classic satiric novel by George Orwell. Has anyone else ever read it? What did you think? I really enjoyed it.

I think my sister read that in like 8th grade... Wasn't there a pig that died or something?

I liked it, it taught me a lot. I'm reading another of Orwell's books now.

it really makes you think about the inner workings of socialism

I have read that book an unhealthy number of times. George Orwell was one of the bravest men of his generation, writing books like 1984 and Animal Farm during that time, when everyone was all paranoid over things like Nazism and Communism.
I probably sound like Sarah Palin, since I'm 90% certain I got something wrong.

I think you got that all right.

this could be my favorite book ever. it's so disturbing yet influential.
the best part to me is at the end when the animals already cannot tell the difference between the pigs and the humans.

"And the animals could see both humans and pigs, although they could not tell which was which."
Or something like that

It was an okay book. A fine, classic piece of satire but it's pretty, uh, entry-level. If it was as masterfully deep as everyone tries to make it out to be it probably wouldn't be required reading for the ninth grade

Animal Farm is a book.

Disliking Stalin and such back when Orwell was writing was pretty safe.
Though he WAS socialist otherwise, though I'm not sure in what ways.

I don't like it when people say "oh that book explains the many flaws of socialism/communism"
because communism is perfect in theory, it's just that people are imperfect and it has always morphed into a totalitarian state, so people think there's something wrong with the system

that is the flaw of communism, though: it is a government system intended for humans, but it can't work for them
