Everyone's idea of a "Quality" project is different.
Just because you don't like certain projects, doesn't mean that others don't! If you don't like a project, don't view it then! The reason they created SDS is so that not-so-experienced Scratchers would be able to get frontpage! If you want to make a gallery for projects that you like, by all means do that!
What if a newbie spent 4 hours working on a project that was very basic, and Woohoo! it's in SDS! Then, they remove it because it's too basic! In this situation, you need to put yourself in others' shoes. How would you feel if someone gave you a grand opportunity to be frontpaged, but then someone took away that opportunity just because you're not very experienced?
Everyone needs to have a fair chance being frontpaged, even if they're new.

As lightnin said, what makes a "good project"?
As for curators adding "bad projects", you must know that curators volunteer their time to serve the community. We aren't given any sort of prize or reward, but we get the thought that we've helped the community, and usually a thanks from our fellow scratchers.
Telling someone their project is bad because it's not what you consider high quality, is not only rude, it's disrespectful.
Intentionally making bad projects is not the same as not being able to make a good project. I have absolutly nothing against most of the scratchers who, let's be honest, didn't do something "big". On the other hand, I do have something against scratchers who's projects I have to see not only in the SDS area, but down there in love and view area.

Yes, but a lot of "bad" projects are not intentional. Hardly anyone means for a project to be "bad"! Stevetheipad has a point.

Actually, in my idea they wouldn't be in the gallery in the first place, so they would not feel sorry.

Everyone still needs a fair chance of being frontpaged! As I said earlier, if you don't like a project, don't view it!

Just to make something clear. Don't think I'm full of hate or something. I just decided to make a peaceful post about newdays projects in comparison to the past, because I remember in the past there were actually some good projects on the front page.
As far for the type of projects: yes, I prefer games. But there are also some great animations and other stuff beside games. But let's be honest: you wont see a bad game on the front page, but you will very often see some bad, short and meaningless animation. In this moment there are actually two animations like that in the most viewed and most loved area, if I recall.
Peace, and don't be mad on me. I am not some kind of rebel.

Friend, in my opinion, that chance is far from being fair for everyone.

You can help that. If a project is "bad", don't give it a loveit! If you have projects that you really like, advertise them in you siggy so that they will get more views!

Maybe some Scratchers are making intentionally bad projects (I seriously doubt it) but we can't just tell Scratchers were not going to add their project because we think they uploaded a "bad project" on purpose.
As far as I see it, SDS is fine. The SDS curating interface could improve, though.

Don't think I click loveit on bad projects. I give a loveit only on two occasions: either when I see much effort, either when the project is actually good.

I'm not suggesting not to add intentionally bad projects to SDS, I'm suggesting not to add bad projects to SDS.

We do not select projects for the SDS. We only add projects that fit the requirements.

Indeed, but he's suggesting that we do select them.
@Kresinho: Can you provide us with a detailed description on what separates "good projects" from "bad projects"?

It's opinion! It's what you think! There's no way to separate "good" projects from "bad" projects! It's what you think! What Kresinho likes is different from what I like.

I agree; I just find that most SDS projects look like they've been whipped up in a couple of minutes.

Well we all have our ideas of good and bad projects. So your responsibility would be to select good projects on your own.
But if you really want a detailed description, here it is, in steps:
Step 1: Open a project.
Step 2: Play (watch) the project.
Step 3:
if <you had fun> put project in else don't put project in

SDS curators are hired by the Scratch Team, therefor we can't represent Scratch when we say we do/don't think a project is high quality.
It's just not going to happen.

Absolutely not! Everyone has a different idea of what's "fun" and what's "boring"! This would do absolutely nothing for the Scratch community!

I know it's not going to happen, but still want to say someting. It's the fact that on front page you can rarely see a good project.

Indeed, and I am very dissapointed if most of scratchers think that frontpage projects nowdays are awesome.

I'll give you my opinion here: A majority of projects on the frontpage are awesome, but I do see some that take about 5 minutes to make. But there is no way to control what is on the frontpage! This would never happen!
Offline
And even it only takes 5 minutes to make, but is a new, different idea, that no one else has come up with, it deserves to be frontpaged. Likewise, I don't think the 15 "How to draw me" projects did, or the ones like "how to be cool; click the love-it button and you will be cool"
If a project has thought and effort put into it, then it deserves to be front-paged. That's really all there is to it.

I'm with you man. Totally agree.
I have the same vision about projects, but I feel it's not happening these days in scratch.

Some people put a lot of effort into SDS, and make good projects. It is also a way for less known scratchers who make good projects to be known. But, it does need reform, so that some one couldn't make a project saying: "I like carnival games", and get frontpaged.
