Is Advertising Your Projects Spam?

Hiya! I have a question I can't really answer. Is avertising your project on another project spam? I just wanted to know this! Please answer soon  smile

Re: Is Advertising Your Projects Spam?

If you just say "Hey everyone look at my project", then yes, that'd be spam. However, if there's some similarities between the projects (if they were both racing games, for example), then I'd think it'd be acceptable to say something like "Nice game! One thing that would improve though is ____, which you can see in my latest project if you don't know how to do"  wink

Re: Is Advertising Your Projects Spam?

A lot of people consider it such. I personally would, unless it's some sort of alternate version or related to a suggestion for the project.

Re: Is Advertising Your Projects Spam?

If someone just posts a link to their own project on one of mine, I just delete it.

But, I'll let it stay if they have made some effort to connecting it to my project.

Re: Is Advertising Your Projects Spam?

I'd say it depends on the way you advertise it. Going around on people's projects and linking to your project is spam. But, if someone asks to be notified about your new projects, then it's okay.

Most of the time, the answer is yes, though.

Re: Is Advertising Your Projects Spam?

I don't spam. I look at other people's projects, and when I see a project that is similar in concepts to one that I have made, I post a link to it.

sometimes people think that's spamming though...

Re: Is Advertising Your Projects Spam?

Spam is something off topic, so if the message is like:
"ooooooooohhhh guyxzzzzz llook at thiz awshum projectzzzzzz (link to project that has nothing to do with the project that you are viewing). Then that's spam. But if the comment is like
"Hey, I really like what you have done here. I myself have made something similar (link to project that is related). That's not spam.

Re: Is Advertising Your Projects Spam?

If it's related to the project, I think it would be okay to put something like, "I made a similar game (link to project)" or if you remixed the project, put something like "I remixed! (link to project)!"

There was a guy w named removed by moderator or something that goes on like every single project on scratch, and says "everyone who likes removed by moderator go to a project called temple run-real! i think i'm gonna start reporting that for spam.

You should report it, especially if you see it on loads of projects.

You shouldn't include their username in posts though.

Yep, that's mostly right.  Ask them politely to stop first - flag them if it keeps happening.

You shouldn't name him/her on the forums. It's not nice to do that.

^This explains it best.

I think it might help to explain why many people see it as spam. Most people consider advertising your stuff on other projects to be spam and inconsiderate to the project owner because the comment function on projects is largely there to get feedback - advertisement spam kind of gives the impression that you might not really care about another person's project.

However, if you were say something like "Nice game! One thing that would improve though is ____, which you can see in my latest project if you don't know how to do" (as RedRocker227 suggested,) or "Nice game! I like ___. My latest game is similar to yours, could you check it out and tell me what you think?", you're giving/getting feedback, which is a different issue.

Re: Is Advertising Your Projects Spam?

that is spam, but it depends on the owner of the project. say like you put a random project on swifty2's project- he would probably delete it in like 2 seconds. but other people would allow it and just leave it, so it just depends on the owner of the project.

Re: Is Advertising Your Projects Spam?

Someone posted two comments that were almost exactly alike advertising a similar project on one of my projects. I asked them if they wanted me to delete on and they didn't reply. What should I do?
