Help!-- A project I was working on disappeared...

Hello all

Yesterday, I downloaded a scratch project source (called "Pirate scene") and spent a lot of time completely changing it and revising it. All the while I kept hitting Ctl-S to save the file.  I even showed the changed version to my dad.

Today, when I got on to scratch on my PC and tried to locate my project, I couldn't find it. My dad said that since I kept saving a changed version of a downloaded file, it is
still likely to be in the \documents & settings\<username>\local settings\Temp  directory.

We went there and found that I did have the *original* downloaded version of "Pirate scene" there, but not my modified version. The time stamp shows that this was the file
I had downloaded yesterday afternoon (and not the one I kept saving until yesterday evening).

I know it was silly of me to not have saved my modified version in a separate directory. However, since Scratch was saving whenever I said ctl-S, it should have saved the modifications in the same file, right? Both I and my dad are unable to explain what might have happened to the modified filed.

Any help recovering the file (or at least a guess as to what might have happened) would be appreciated.

Thanks

Did you check the "Projects" directory?  I've found that my students often end up saving their files there instead of wherever they think they are saving them.

Personally, I think that the save button and keyboard shortcut should pop up a little dialog box that says *where* the file was saved. (Maybe going away automatically after 20 seconds.)

Hi Kevin

We did check the Projects directory and it wasn't saved there.. (By the way, one of the modifications I did was to include a background song from Itunes--I wonder if that somehow affected the way the file gets saved).

I have had the same problem, no only with Scratch but with other applications like Microsoft Word.

I would just use the Windows search to find all the files with the .sb extension on your hard drive and hope that you find it.

That doesn't sound good. Never thought that was possible. We should backup our projects!  yikes

http://i52.tinypic.com/5es7t0.png I know what you're thinking! "Neptune! Get rid of those filthy advertisements and give us back the Zarathustra siggy, you horrible person!" Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>
