Don't you think that the Scratch team are over exaggerating about spamming? I don't see much spamming anyway. Besides, if spammers want to spam, then they could just put the spam link in their signature! The new post count rule, also. How does that help stop spamming? The sixty second rule. There are too many ways to stop spamming, and some of those are back-firing! I think.

Thanks!

Yes. Quite frankly, I hate the changes made in the past few weeks/months. I try not to form an opinion on the changes until I get used to them, but I've already decided I hate this idea. We never see any spam about post counts anyway. First images are disabled. The Misc. is removed. Now this :llll
Sorry, I needed a rant XD

I agree now.
At first I didn't, but where do you see spamming?
Offline
Well the posts thing is so people don't make spam topics like "Yaaay this is my 10,000th post wooo hooo so awesome" or something like that.

Honestly I think the scratch team should be cautious of spamming, in case any thing does happen. The less cautious the Scratch Team is, the more chances of spammers there are.

Why'd you hide the last part?

I guess that the IMG tag removal was a good idea, but the new forums get spammed MORE than Misc did. I am going to quit if these changes aren't reversed. I mean, seriously? All the fun things on the Scratch forums have been removed because of one image spammer. I don't understand how deleting post counts helps fix spam. Seriously?

I can see why it may seem over-exaggerating, but Scratch is a place for kids. If the Scratch Team were really serious about stopping spam, they would remove nearly all the features (blocks, images, post counts, add word/character post minimum, signatures, etc) and just have a name and the content of the post showing, and possibly titles for moderators and admins.
I honestly wouldn't mind if they removed all those features, as long as they keep the Scratch Blocks, quotes, and code (and maybe a few other BBCode) tags, those features would be all I need to help others. Who needs images, post counts, signatures, etc? They may be useful, but they aren't needed.
If you want to have fun in the forums, I suggest going to the TBG or finding some social networking site. Scratch is meant for Scratch, not spam.

The Report button should be made more visible.
But yes, I agree, these new measures against spamming are sort of OTT.
The 3% of spammers are killing the forums for the 97% of regular Scratchers.
1%. ^^
And come and support this!

I agree with you Haiming. Honestly, the new "concealing post count" thing is totally unnecessary.

All of the recent changes (with the exception of the img tags) were done to return the focus of the forums to Scratch. We came to the conclusion that we were spending too much time providing a service that didn't contribute very much to actually Scratching.
So we restructured the forums (with a strong focus on limiting off-topic material), installed the new scratchblocks, and tried to remove spamming incentive by putting in the tiered post count. It's a little early yet to see if our goals have been met by these changes - but I'm very encouraged. There seems to be a renewed interest in the Scratch language and the off-topic forums are requiring less supervision - freeing up time for other areas of the website.
We recognize that some of these changes are not popular and perhaps make the forums less entertaining. We're willing to make that trade-off to reduce our management resources and improve the forums as a resource for Scratching.
But keep your feedback coming - we do read it and it does play a role in our decision making

If you don't see much spam, it means the moderators and Scratch team are doing there job, right?

Yes.
I'm leaving when I find a good forum to go to instead of Scratch unless if the ST enables:
-Img tags
-Miscellaneous
and disables the 60 second rule.

IMG tags will probably come back on before the end of March (I hope so, at least), but Misc is gone, and the 60sr is here to stay, much to many user's disappointment.

....Time for me to go to AT and make a userscript that does everything I want the ST to do except for disabling the 60 second rule.

i agree. Once one person said my comment was spamming and i replied to him that i was not and he was bullying. Then a bunch of other people replied to that guy who was bullying and said they agreed with me that he was bulllying me. All i did is just put whatever the project said and put it in words, but i forgot to put "lol" in the end and thats probably y he thought i was spamming. Can someone tell me what spam means? ?
