I think it is caused by open-ended [block] tags, but I'm not sure.

Trying to replicate:
EDIT: Yep! Got it. Blocks withput the [block] tag are considered 'open-ended' and any text after, including signatures, Edit note, and 'Offline'/'Online' are emphasized. Furthermore, some extra lines are added. This is unaffacted by any future posts.
Here's proof:

Thanks for checking this out...it's been a bug for a long time. The whole block section really needs a good house-cleaning, what with all the missing and outdated blocks.

Now that we have the [scratchblocks] tag, you should completely remove the old ones. The syntax is still readable for someone viewing olde posts. In include/parser.php, reset the $smiley_text and $smiley_img arrays to the smilies. Also, it looks like the blocks were causing problems anyways, as there are three sections in that file to deal with problems from Scratch blocks.
Also, why is code for JSO's block commented out (current lines 455 & 465)?
Oh yeah, it's cool to be looking at the post source and seeing how it'll be parsed. XD

You should probably report for this to be closed, since we have the [scratchblocks] tags.
