Oh, I really want to learn that. I'm using Xara right now because I usually don't make anything big when I do vectors, and Xara is very fast and lightweight. ^^

Fanofcena, fanofcena, fanofcena. Always supporting the big companies aren't you.

Tell me at least 5 things that PS can do that Gimp can't do, and maybe I'll consider it worth the 500 bucks.

1. Not always i dont support big companies  tongue

Infact I  HATE Flash and support the open HTML about 1000,0000,00000x then flash  tongue

2. O by the way ::

*Try to import a complex .eps to  GIMP MostlyFails
    * Try to save filters on layers and Not as rendered layers/masks in .xcf - gimp will ask you to normalize the image ( if u do the same with .psd , PS will do an awesome job and thus it reduces the file format size a lot  tongue  but if you import the .psd in gimp GIMP will fail to import PS effects [well ofc it will lol] )
    * and there are a lot of cases i have seen working as a web-devel , dear lord i actually had to ask MRN to normalize & export images in .psd format for me so that i can use em
   * Gimp on windows 7 has a nice bug its UI gets hidden of no reason ! and goes to background while the active element stays on foreground.

And well i support things that work  tongue

Let's get back on topic guys. I think we can all agree that it boils down to personal preferences and the needs of an individual. ^^

Vectors are cool, but I don't like using them for anything big (or at least the kind of vectors I have, which only supports lines).

So basically, you're saying, politely, that PS is better than Gimp. I used to like you...

Not at all! ^^ I actually stated in my analogy that GIMP (the "small brush") is good for "drawing on A4 paper", aka is better for personal use because it is more lightweight, has all of the features an average user would need and lacks the features that an average user would not need.

The point of my post was to disagree with the people in this topic who stated that GIMP is better and has more features than Photoshop.

Neither is better, it's just that Photoshop is accustomed for professional use. :3

Back on topic: I really like the first image. I'm always really into drawn stuff. xD

Thank you  smile  I actually have some other drawings (hand colored and they don't look that great on the computer) of P&F characters as Phantom characters here... and Wheatley with a Phantom mask on (I know I spelled Aperture wrong... realized that a little while ago ><) I've got a few other hand drawn art on there but I'm too lazy to go through and tag it all right now so I can link to it  tongue

Nice pictures. I use PS, but only because that's what we have at school. I like it a lot, but I've never tried GIMP. Anyway, I love making graphics and editing photos. Maybe one day I'll show you some of mine...  smile

There are countless Photoshop vs. GIMP debates over the internet.

+1

Sorry about the fuss I made over PS vs Gimp. I understand why some people will use PS, but honestly, I prefer Gimp. In fact, it looks slicker, cuter and plus, I don't need CMYK.  wink

Re: Recently got GIMP and I wanted to share some of my work :)

i have used the gimp  to create image sequences for some of my scratch projects..
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/forest/816139
(i also do not solely prefer one image editing package to another.. as find different programs afford different functions or whatever which is like using fine brushes to using an air brush..or whatever in conventional painting terms..)

Yes but did you read the ending?

"All that said, I use Gimp way more often. Why? Because it does the job, it’s free, doesn’t use up much memory, and I don’t have to keep track of licensing information. Besides, though Photoshop does a lot more, Gimp does infinitely more than most graphic artists will ever need."
