Copy/paste feature?

I have been using Scratch for a bit and noticed there is no cut, copy, or paste option. Perhaps they could be put in a future version?

Re: Copy/paste feature?

At the top right, there is a row of five buttons, the first being the cursor. The second is copy which can be used on a sprite, and the third is delete. You can also right click on the sprite to delete or duplicate it. For scripts, you can right click the head to select the delete option, or right click on any block for the duplicate option.

Re: Copy/paste feature?

But it's quite a fuss to duplicate, delete, and then press undo over and over when I have to put a script on more than one object. That's why I suggested it.

Re: Copy/paste feature?

Yeah you can use the duplicate tools but nothing beats copying and pasting.

Re: Copy/paste feature?

For the same reaons of not instantly implementing a sprite duplication feature, I think that the Scratch Team may be afraid of new users abusing the feature and creating useless projects with thousands and thousands of sprites, which may slow the server and possibly crash/slow computers.

Re: Copy/paste feature?

No, I only really need this for scripts. There really needs to be an easier way to apply the same script to multiple objects.

Re: Copy/paste feature?

No, dynamic sprite duplication and copy&pasting is as different as can be.

Any one who uses text based programming could tell you that copy&pasting is a vital feature in coding. For instance, you could copy code directly from the forums then paste it into scratch.

Re: Copy/paste feature?

Except that Scratch isn't text-based.

The best way would be to just get all the scripts you need on one sprite and then just duplicate the sprite in the panel below. Btw, how many sprites with the same scripts do you need and couldn't you use a different method?

Re: Copy/paste feature?

My Scratch project needed six different sprites with the same scripts, and I needed to go through them a full THREE TIMES because I needed to put on two scripts and had to fix one of the scripts so it would work properly. The problem was all those sprites were different, so I couldn't just duplicate them!

Re: Copy/paste feature?

Was it possible to just create one sprite and check its scripts before duplicating them, or were they interactive?

Re: Copy/paste feature?

It was, but I didn't think of doing that. I will next time, although that doesn't solve my main problem.

Re: Copy/paste feature?

Here's a tip: if you have a lot of sprites and you need to put the same script in each, have the script ready in one sprite and then drag it onto another. The script will copy into that one but it also stays in the original sprite.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Re: Copy/paste feature?

When you drag a script on top of another sprite, it is actually duplicated. But a drag select feature + copy pasting would be nice...
