I got the stupid glitch again!!!!!
(Caution: This post contains lots of smileys. )
This time, it was especially annoying.
When I clicked Okay in the for sprite 7 in the paint editor, just the text on Sprite7 disappeared!
I immediately saved the two hour's worth of changes that I had made, then closed down the scratch application. (then went here )
I re-opened up the project. The text was still gone. I clicked the save icon acouple of times and it came back!
Then after about 5 minutes the glitch came back, but on Sprite6.
I closed scratch, reopened, then saved acouple of times to restore text. ( That sticky really helped me!) I edited some costumes for sprite 5. The bug seemed to have flown away ( ) Unfortunately, it came back for Sprite7 again
This is so annoying when it only happens for 1 sprite!
Oh, and this time, I was on the Macs at school. ( ) It can happen on PC's and Macs!!
Hope this helpedWas the project started on a Mac or a PC?

I found a way to reproduce it!!!
step 1: make about 25-30 sprites with lots of text on them.
step 2: change the language for no reason a couple of times. change it back to English.
step 3: start editing the sprites text for no reason.
step 4: make a huge operator that will have an error when you try to make it work.
step 5: edit the sprites for no reason again.
step 6: make the operator you made play a few times and make it have an error.
step 7: make a huge wall of text.
step 8: tell the text goodbye.
step 9: the text disappears.

Okay here's what to do! This method will work 100 percent of the time. It's SUPER simple. All you have to do is, stop the project (click the stop sign), then go to File and click "Save." NOT "Save as..." Now all you have to do is keep doing that (going to file, clicking save) until your text re-appears. Something happens in scratch to where it sort of "remembers" the text after so many times saving and bam, all your text is back. I've tested this method on more than one occasion and it's absolutely fool proof. If your text doesn't come back within the first 2 or 3, maybe even 5 saves, don't get dis-couraged, just keep saving. Don't worry, I'm not trolling you. This really works. Oh, and before I forget; Sometimes when you save, only a portion of your text comes back, if this happens, don't panic. Just keep saving until all of your text is completely back. If you start feeling doubtful, close the project, open it back up, and continue to save until your text is back. I hope I helped! (:

a dynamic libary (AKA a dll) isn't binary code; binary code is somthing like this: 0011101111 - a dll is written in C++, C etc.. and you can only read it with a decompiler, which is why it showed the weird letters for me.
Also, I've seen Minecraft do stuff like that (Limiting the free RAM) to about 5% of my RAM, and I have like over 1G of RAM space for Minecraft, so it shouldn't crash..
oh, dear
the reason why you can only read it with a decompiler, is that a decompiler turns it back to source language from binary -.-

POSSIBLE BREAKTHROUGH!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!
I noticed that it ONLY happens (emphasis on only) when you switch from the default font to a truetype font. it's in the truetype code (as some others have mentioned before.) maybe it would help if you told what font you switched to or if it was still in the default font when it happens?

Dont forget to mention if it still doesnt work, the text will come back if you manually edit all costumes with text.

Well, I guess it just has to do with too many sprites and a big project. I never ran into it before working on a huge project. My current project has about 70-80 sprites. The disappearing text happens about 5 to 10 minutes after I open my project.
Could it have to do with changing font?
Anyway, when I came across it, I just saved and exited. When I open the project again, everything is fine.

It seems to me that it's more likely to happen after you've done a lot in Scratch, or let it sit for a while--or is it just me?

Yes, but that task is long and tedious and already known about. I figured I didn't need to bring that up.

I got it a couple times while developing this project--maybe that's a good start for trying to reproduce it?

I find it odd that it's never happened to me, especially since most of my games involve lots of variables and lists

That's usually the case for me, but sometimes it happens when working with very long scripts or sprites with walls of text.

I'm going to experiment with this bug. It happens to me loads of times.
Next time it happens, I'm going to try stuff, including saving a screenshot of the workspace and trying to upload the project whilst the bug is happening. Also maybe try and edit/add text in the text editor?
If I find a way of quickly fixing it if it happens, I'll say.
Experiment, will delete:
when gf clicked repeat until <(timer) > [10]> go to [mouse-pointer v] end think [Scripts in your posts!] for (3) secs

Yup, it doesn't always happen in the paint editor.

I THINK I KNOW ---- I use Windows 7, and I've found that only CERTAIN fonts make Scratch glitch. When I use something simple/generic like Arial or Times New Roman, nothing glitchy comes up. But when I used more unique fonts like Sergoe Script, Scratch became little more than a graphic --- it wouldn't let me click so much as the exit button, much less the save button. So, I stick with Arial font and I'm good.
