Re: Frozen Coco: Take 3

Guys, I think we should post LSJ in a Scratch project. It isn't that bad, and I wanna see how people react to it.

@DIY, starting as soon as possible != rushing the whole thing. veggie and fg123 are pretty right on this and we've already discussed it. Let's take our time. (EDIT: Oh, exactly what you said. Just noticed, nvm)

Parents are out again, so I'll try to quickly record Gone on bass. Talking about that, do you need the bass tracks for My Voice to You and When I'm Beside You, or should we just use the tracks we already have (i.e. you won't mix those two again)?

I know. That's what I said. I will do bass for Reload meanwhile and the other Reload tracks. We are redoing the first two songs, right? Then I propose we start afresh. I'll try recording those bass tracks then too. Are we using a different vocalist for those two?

Well, we should actually hire a vocalist before redoing them. I suggest we use the same tracks on most, if not all instruments, and you mix everything again.

We should start some vocalist auditions, don't ya think? I'll see if designer45 can give me the FC Scratch account.

@jslomba, the idea is posting all songs as a EP, not one at a time.

Yep.

Btw DIY, your revamped Reload sounds good :3 The chorus could use better drums, maybe jslomba can improvise something when recording it. The organ solo is a nice idea, hopefully it sounds better when recorded though, lol. I like the distorted guitar arpeggios, will you record those?

EDIT: Uploading 3 bass takes of Gone right now.

EDIT2: Done! Take 3 is the best one imo, but I'll let DIY decide.

I like the cello part. Are you going to add vocals?

Also (slightly off-topic), I heard the album is going to be 5 songs. What's the fifth song (besides LSJ, Gone, My Voice To You, and When I'm Beside You)?

Either Reload or Flashback, I think.

Let's stick to Reload for the time being as it's part of the original line-up. Like you suggested earlier, we can add Flashback to the second album we do.  smile

Techno, I'd also go with Take 3 of the bass.  big_smile  What d'ya say we do the bass tracks for our respective songs (i.e. I do bass for Reload as I can get an amazing sound from the Hofner) in this album, since you've recorded it already?

I'll try and improve Reload in some parts like you suggested. Glad you liked it!

Thanks!  cool

Have you started recording the drums for Gone and Reload yet? I'm just inquiring; there's no hurry. As techno said, you can improvise for Reload if you want to during the chorus, if it does not quite fit in.  smile

And btw, do you know if techno has contacted hpotter134 regarding the guitar tracks for the two remaining songs?

Re: Frozen Coco: Take 3

May I post a cover version of Gone that I made in the MAC forum?

(I did the vocals, and the accompaniment is synthesized. I have to ask for permission before posting a cover, because Noteflight score of Gone, which I used to make the accompaniment, is set as Copyright.)

I'm not so sure about that. You'll have to ask techno since he's the guy who wrote it. I'm not sure he wants others covering our songs before they are released. After, maybe.

I really love the keyboard on this! The drums sound really clipped though. Like, extremely intensely just so clipped that I can barely listen  hmm

Ok, I've removed the download links. What's the best way to conact Techno?

Techno usually comes online in the evening/night for me, but that's coz I live in the UK. For you guys, he may come online during the morning/afternoon.

Re: Frozen Coco: Take 3

Hey techno, now that I've redone LSJ with better piano tracks, it sounds way more polished as you may have noticed. However, the raw signal of the guitar "is unprocessed and sounds annoyingly pointy and trebly" as you mentioned earlier. I tried downloading the tube preamp sim and impulse based cab sim from Poulin LeCab after your advice, but for some reason, the .dll file in the zip folder appears corrupted with a bunch of weird symbols and characters.

Hence, when you have the time, it'll be useful if you could pass the LSJ track through your VSTs and upload the "clean" version on SoundCloud. Do you think you could do that for me? Also, I stated this previously, but are you all right with me recording the bass tracks for Reload, and you for Gone?

If we are redoing the vocals for My Voice To You and WIBY, we need a vocalist. There have been a few who signed up for the post a few days ago, so I guess we'll have to choose from that lot. I'm fine with taking up vocals though if we do not find anyone of sufficient skill. In my opinion, if you still have the master track with all the instruments (excluding vocals) for the two songs, we should use that and overdub the new singer's vocals. It'll make it much easier for me and besides, your mixing sounds pretty good on those.

I'm fine with that and I said so on his thread. Good point about covering it before it's released, but I'll let this be an exception.  tongue  It's not like we're really secretive about it anyway, anyone can read this thread and we know that.

The new LSJ mix sounds good except for the bass being a little too loud, though it might be the cheapo headphones I'm using.

I'll give you the guitar tracks through my VSTs in a while.

EDIT: Oh and I'm fine with you playing Reload. It isn't a hard song on bass though, and the bassline that often repeats in the song was indeed written by me, so I could easily learn the song and record the bass track if I find the opportunity. But I'll let you record the bass just in case I can't do so.  smile

The bass values are the same as before. That's strange, but I'd say it is your headphones.  tongue

I was aware of that fact when I made the point about a cover of Gone been released before our version. I still think that we tell zippynk to upload the cover after our one. Just giving my two cents as manager.  big_smile

Hmm. I'm listening to WIBY right now and the bass doesn't seem nearly as loud as when I listened to it through actually good headphones... So either you did put the bass too loud (and I didn't notice on the other mix) or I buried the bass in WIBY's mix.  tongue

Again, good point about Gone. I just hope we manage to release it soon.  lol  I already told him I'm fine with it though... Let's just let him as an exception, nothing too bad could happen.

Here's the processed LSJ tracks. I suggest you add a little reverb and compression to the lead track, it sounds much less annoying with reverb.  big_smile

Also, the whole mix could use some panning. In mine, I panned the lead guitar to the left and the piano to the right.

EDIT: I e-mailed hpotter134 like two days ago to see if he could record Gone and Reload... No answer yet. :c
