What can I do with an old, broken mp3 player?

Do you guys know what I can do with an old, broken mp3 player? I have a 1GB sansa express mp3 player which died years ago. Now I have a much better replacement. What can I do this the old one?

More info on the mp3 player: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Sansa-Exp … cr_pr_pb_t

Yeah, if it's really broken, I'd take it apart to look at the guts and try to figure out how it works.  smile

But if you get it working again, glue it inside a stuffed animal to that the buttons / headphone port are still accessible. Put a special mix / playlist for a friend on it, and then give them your mix-tape-animal. They can then plug their headphones into it.

I did this once with flash memory glued inside an old cassette tape, and another time with a usb stick buried in play-doh.

It rarely does work. I found this too:

With Rockbox, a good rule of thumb is that if it has a low resolution, text-only screen (or no screen at all), it won't work. I have an old RCA Pearl (that is actually the same form factor as yours, but still works) that I wanted to put Rockbox on. D:

@topic: If you are good at electronics, try to salvage the screen, headphone jack, and other stuff from it. If you are REALLY good, try to figure out how to reprogram the onboard flash to do something else (Tetris, anyone?  wink  ).

Re: What can I do with an old, broken mp3 player?

I would add fake buttons and knobs to make it look like a handheld time machine
Take the time machine a) in your pocket or b) wrapped around your wrist wherever you go, and make frequent comments about how annoying it is when you get frozen in time for five minutes and passersby just see you standing there with changing facial expressions
I do this except with dental floss containers and broken technology
...It's normal right?

Salvage all useable items, or put it on a RC toy, so that it plays music while playing  smile

Connect speakers to it, and wire it to run off the RC toy battery  wink

Re: What can I do with an old, broken mp3 player?

Alright. We opened it up, and it's pretty cool. Turns out the battery died, which according to many on the Internet, this happens often.

Now I got to think if I should replace the battery or not. I could have a backup to my mp3, but I am tired of the stupid Sansa mp3 players. Maybe I'll make a vid of me going to a ballpark and using it as a baseball  big_smile

Ok, I probably won't do that. I'll have to figure out what to do with the components. Any suggestions?
